Spell Scrolls

While only Meallán can copy spells from these scrolls into his spellbook, other party members can attempt to activate and cast from spell scrolls provided the spell appears on their class list (for example, Amani may activate those from the sorcerer class list and Anthony from the bard class list.)   The spell's saving throw DC and attack bonus is determined based on its level.
Level Save DC Attack Bonus
1 13 +5
2 13 +5
3 13 +5
4 15 +7
5 15 +7
6 17 +9
If the spell is on your class list and of a level you can ordinarily cast: you can read and cast the spell using its normal casting time, without expending a spell slot or material components. After the spell is cast, the spell scroll crumbles to dust.   If the spell is on your class list but of a higher level than you can ordinarily cast: you must make an ability check using your spellcasting ability (DC= 10 + the spell's level- this check does not utilise your proficiency bonus.) On a successful check, the spell is cast as above. On a failed check, the caster must make an additional DC 10 Intelligence save. On a failed save, the caster rolls on the scroll mishap table below. Whether success or failure, the scroll crumbles to dust.
d6 Result
1 A surge of magical energy deals the caster 1d6 force damage per level of the spell.
2 The spell affects the caster or an ally (determined randomly) instead of the intended target, or it affects a random target nearby if the caster was the intended target.
3 The spell affects a random location within the spell’s range.
4 The spell’s effect is contrary to its normal one, but neither harmful nor beneficial. For instance, a fireball might produce an area of harmless cold.
5 The caster suffers a minor but bizarre effect related to the spell. Such effects last only as long as the original spell’s duration, or 1d10 minutes for spells that take effect instantaneously. For example, a fireball might cause smoke to billow from the caster’s ears for 1d10 minutes.
6 The spell activates after 1d12 hours. If the caster was the intended target, the spell takes effect normally. If the caster was not the intended target, the spell goes off in the general direction of the intended target, up to the spell’s maximum range, if the target has moved away.
Spell scrolls can be purchased at scrolleries like the one in Cai Shaan, or potentially found as loot elsewhere.
