A majority of mortals recognize the existence of all the Gods, but may favor one or more over the others depending on their profession and values. And although there are eight known Gods, only “the Six” (Iona, Xithar, Arasil, Lyrana, Ravun, and Ieyr) are spoken of or prayed to openly. The “Unspoken,” Lamae and Mazus, are worshipped by evil creatures and factions. Additionally, there is rumored to have been a ninth God (see “the Forgotten” and “Voice of the Forgotten”). Although not common, the Gods of Eulara are capable of speaking through heralds - blessed mortals, known as Prophets - to influence events or aid in secret. Long ago, they would even walk among their creations, disguised in any form that they wished. Mortals were completely unaware if they met and spoke to a God in this way, unless on the very rare occasions where they revealed their identity. There have been many stories throughout history of mortals claiming to meet a God in person, some truthful - great heroes of ages past, retold now only in mythical story-tales and songs - and others, obviously deluded or at the least, questionable. Nowadays, the Gods remain in their Realms in the planes beyond, overseeing the duties of their Domains from afar, and intervening on behalf of mortals only when deemed necessary. Many years as such has reduced the Gods’ power on the mortal plane, necessitating the use of Prophets and Chosen to carry out their wishes.
