Serpents

Hailing from Pangaria, this reptilian species has become widely classified as a slave species, with a majority of their population in bondage. After a series of skirmishes in the late 1st era, countries such as Cahyrst & Thaldisetr used their unique physiology for their own benefit, helping forge great cities and monuments to their gods. And while the Serpents have managed to rebuild their nation over the eras, many of their kin are kept and sold in various nations across the globe. While it is possible for a Serpent to regain its freedom, they will often find that the world is cruel to their kind, and often leads to harsh remarks and general rudeness towards them.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Serpents often stand tall compared to Humans and Lanjuans, ranging from 7 to 8 feet compared to human's 5-6, and Lanjua's 6-7. Their skeletal structure is bipedal, with two arms, two legs, and a tail. To support their massive weight, Serpents rely on their tail for balance and quick movement, and because of their size, they are unable to regulate their body heat, leaving them cold blooded. It takes their two hearts to pump blood quickly through the body, and their species has less unique bloodtypes compared to human's four and Lanjua's five.

Genetics and Reproduction

Serpents reproduce in a similar manner to Humans and Lanjua, using their reproductive organs to penetrate a female, and deliver his seed.   Serpents take about 12 to 14 months to give birth. When a female is ready to give birth, her feathers contract and her blood rate slows, often leaving them in a high-like state as the body attempts to block the pain of giving birth. Unlike other reptiles, Serpents have live births, rather than through eggs, and females must be in a warm environment in order to give birth. Females are able to spend more energy to regulate their body heat in order to help their child, but doing so leaves them incredibly weak, and requiring lots of attention over the year-long birth cycle.

Dietary Needs and Habits

While technically Omnivores, Serpents appear to be closer to carnivores in terms of dietary habits, as their razor sharp teeth can cut through flesh with ease. However, they often substitute their need for bountiful amounts of vitamin C with fruit.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Serpents have a reputation of great hearing, being able to sense movement in perfect detail within ten feet. They are also capable of understanding and using a "Sixth Sense", which lets them perceive the fourth dimension. This has led Serpents to construct great, yet impossible structures in their home, and gates that lay deep beneath their feet, connecting to cities that have general importance to them. These areas are often too deep for Humans to delve, as the pressure becomes unbearable to their more frail forms. Lanjua can be found in these tunnels, as their exoskeletons help with the pressure required to be within these areas, however they often get lost when traveling, and end up needing help to find their way out.
