Yunagi

Yunagi are considered the most bizarre creatures on Ettor by most, seen by many humans as being closer to beasts than sapient creatures. This could not be further from the truth. Yunagi hold a rich, noble history as builders of empires, conquerors of civilizations, and pioneers of medicine. They originated on a continent far across the ocean, lost to a horrific natural disaster that nearly caused the extinction of their race hundreds of years ago. The remnants fled east, eventually finding refuge on a pair of islands northwest of Gento.   Since their exodus, the Yunagi have brushed dangerously close with extinction multiple times, as they battled natural dangers, wars amongst themselves, and disease. Eventually, the Yunagi united the majority of the tribes inhabiting Koda and Isaio into a central government, stabilizing their civilization. In the years following their migration to Koda and Isaio, most Yunagi who ventured to the mainland were used against their will as beasts of burden, or as units in the military during the Northern Wars between the Weissic provinces, and the great war between the Weissic Empire and Kessia and its allies. Now, centuries later, they share a civilization with Gento, as well as the coastal regions of Kessia and even the Weissic Empire, despite their natural distaste for cold environments.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Yunagi are strange creatures to say the least. Their evolutionary history started off millions of years ago as unintelligent predatory creatures, but some event lost to time caused them to mutate into their current forms; large and powerful, but with advanced brains like a human's and nimble limbs with which to use tools. They are large creatures, averaging at nine feet tall and fourteen feet long from head to tail. They are amphibious, meaning they can breathe both on land and underwater. They have two pairs of arms; the dominant pair is heavily muscled and incredibly strong with crude, grasping "hands", and the secondary pair is smaller but more nimble and dexterous. While Yunagi are hexapods, they walk using their rear legs and powerful arms, similar to the way primates walk but in a more graceful fashion.   Despite their impressive stature, the most remarkable trait among Yunagi is the bio-luminescent patterns that run across the surface of their thick skin, which evolved thousands of years ago as a display of intimidation.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Yunagi are home to the tropical islands Koda and Isaio, northwest of Gento. They also live amongst the humans and giants in Gento, as well as the coastal regions of the mainland.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

The native Yunagi is unable to be spoken by any race other than Kenku and Zanji, as the phonetics used are not possible in races that cannot mimic sounds. The language sounds like strings of deep warbling and clicks. It sounds almost like a song, and is quite mesmerizing to listen to. Because of this, Yunagi often take two names; one in their native language, and one in Common, according to the area they reside in.

Common Dress Code

Yunagi tend to wear minimal clothing, as they are naturally resistant to the elements that they thrive in. Lightweight, loose "robes" are standard attire, and head-dresses of various size and material are common among the wealthy or noble. In colder regions, they must wear thick furs to survive.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Most Yunagi boast pale green, stone blue, or washed out brown skin, but other, rarer colors exist as well. White, black, red, and richer, more saturated greens and blues are also possible colors. Their bio-luminescence is typically blue and green, but orange and yellow have been seen as well.
Large sized Creature: –1 penalty to Armor Class, –1 penalty on attack rolls, –4 penalty on Hide checks, +4 bonus on grapple checks, lifting and carrying limits double those of Medium characters.   +2 Con, +4 Str, -2 Int, -2 Cha   Two slam attacks and one bite attack   Gains the Ambidexterity feat for free.   Level Adjustment: +2   Limb Symmetry: A Yunagi's four arms allow it to carry and use multiple items with relative ease. A Yunagi can use its third and fourth limbs to steady a weapon held in its primary arms, shift its weight, and maneuver it to attack or defend. A Yunagi ignores the Dexterity prerequisite, if any, for any feat that has the words "two-weapon" in its name, such as Two-Weapon Fighting. The Yunagi must fulfill the rest of the feat's requirements as normal.   Bioluminescence: A Yunagi has a number of glands on its body that allow it to shed light much like a firefly. At will, the Yunagi can shed light in a 10- foot radius around its body. Shadowy illumination extends another 20 feet around this area. The Yunagi can create or douse this light as a free action. Using this ability grants +4 to Intimidate.   Four-Armed: Yunagi have two powerful primary arms, and two smaller secondary arms used for more dexterous actions such as manipulating delicate objects and using items, but are poorly suited for carrying weapons or shields. This allows them to use certain items or perform lightweight tasks while their primary arms are in use. A Yunagi can wield a pair of two-handed weapons by using all four of its limbs and gains the full benefits of wielding a two-handed weapon, such as 1-1/2 times its Strength bonus on damage rolls.
