Dwarf

Dwarves were a hardy humanoid race found on Etof. Renowned for their craftsmanship and martial prowess, dwarves were a dominating race in much of Etof's hills and mountains.

Subraces

Mountain Dwarves

Referring to themselves as shield dwarves, mountain dwarves were a dominant force on Etof until the Murder of the Universe. The nation of Deepcrag on Ardéla was the largest mountain dwarf civilization, until war with the United Tribes of Halgork toppled the great kingdom.   Mountain dwarves were semi-reclusive and, unlike other dwarf subraces, did not venture far out of mountainous regions they called home. They are wary of outsiders, and many mountain dwarves carry innate resentment towards races such as goblinoids. Overall, the other races of Etof view mountain dwarves as a frustrating people to interact with.

Hill Dwarves

Gold dwarves, as they call themselves, were the most common dwarf subrace on Etof. The hill dwarves were less reclusive than mountain dwarves, and would often assimilate into established societies in their own neighborhoods. With this, it was common to find "dwarven districts" in many cities all across Etof, comprised mostly of hill dwarves. Despite this societal assimilation, biological incompatibilities made it impossible for dwarves to have hybrid children with other races.

Grey Dwarves

Called Duergar by the other dwarven subraces, these dwarves were rarely seen on the surface of Etof, instead living in ravines and underground cities. Grey dwarves were commonly found in regions with access to Darkreach, a complex system of caverns that ran underneath the surface of Etof. Initially created by Jol to help tame the evils of Darkreach, they faced centuries of hardship in constant war with these evils, and were eventually abandoned by their creator long before the Murder of the Universe. After the apocalypse, the grey dwarves took to worshipping the Damen.
