Ethias Basics Part 2: Subraces

Ethias Subraces

Welcome back! After a bit of debate, I've come to decide what needs to be said in this section. As in the previous I went through the majority of the primary races in Ethias. Mind you, as a reminder, the previous article was just a simple generalization. I will be providing more information down the road. However, this section is about, as the heading says: Subraces.   Subraces are related more to an individual's life state and powers more than anything, rather than being a true race. However, the nature of some of these abilities and subraces often always carry over into future generations too. I will elaborate in more detail below about these states and subraces, but this is how they'll be referred to.   These states are effectively: Mortal, Spirit, Angel, Demon, Half-Demon/Cambion, Nephilim and Undead. Each of these will receive a brief explanation, mind you, I do apologize if it's a little messy too, as I haven't worked the kinks out of the details quite yet.   Mortal   Mortals, are among the most basic of all life on Ethias. There's not much else to say about them, except that they are the foundation of all life. Without mortals nothing would be possible. Lifespans may vary depending on race.   Undead   Undead, are also as described. They are essentially mortal beings brought back from the grave. There are an assortment of beings that they can be and despite the fact that Vampires on Ethias (Will elaborate further at another point), are born of mortal beings (Bat Animeleist and a Human), they are classified as undead. This also includes Ghosts, as well as rotting corpses, AKA Zombies as many of you have come to know. Some of these beings too, such as Zombies and Ghosts, may or may not be viably able to reproduce. Ghosts, it's uncertain, but plausible, while Zombies....depends on the condition of their body in many cases. Please do not kill me for this one. Their lifespan is unknown.   Spirit   Spirits, while similar in some cases to the Undead, are different in comparison to ghosts. As there are two categorizations of them. There's the "Natural" Spirit and the "Strong Willed" spirit. To elaborate further, the first are the spirits that exist all around and are created/born for the purpose of the world. They can include beings such as a Kitsune, and even go as far as being an embodiment of an element or force of nature. The "Strong Willed" spirits are ghosts that died with such a strong will and powers that they have a greater presence. They were once mortal beings, but offered up their strength and retained purpose even beyond their deaths. Dragons are one such race that can become spirits after their death instead of just ghosts and can share their power and wisdom with others, even acting as tools or weapons for generations afterward. Elemental spirits however are most common and are capable of reproduction too. This often generates "Elementals". (Which will be explained in another article, when I go more in depth with each race and subrace.) Spirits don't 'die' either depending on their strength. Though some might just fade away slowly if they remain on the mortal plane for too long.   Half-Demon/Cambion   A true classic, the Cambion or Half-Demon, depending on what you'd like to call it, depending on its parentage, may receive a different name. Specifically, Incubus/Succubus offspring are Cambions (according to lore) but, they are still classified as Half-Demons as well. As this is a broad classification for any being that has one full demon parent and one mortal parent. There are many intricacies to being a half-demon in this case, but the key factors that one must know right now is: They live significantly longer than mortals, are significantly stronger and can be more violent too. As well, the final detail is, it's almost always usually passed on, as it's something that reaches down on a more spiritual level, rather than just a physical one. They also may inherit some physical characteristics when their demon blood and power boils to the surface. It's less overt to help it blend in more. Resistant to Holy Water.   Nephilim   In case no one knows what a Nephilim is, it is the name for, at least in a lore standpoint, a child of an Angel and a Human. For Ethias, it is the child of a mortal and an Angel. Like Half-Demons, many of the same rules apply to it, but the major difference is, Nephilims tend to grow stronger than their angelic parent as well. It's always passed on and they tend to be more overt contrary to Half-Demons. They also tend to be less temperamental and violent, because Divine Mana suppresses the soul's impulses.   Demons   Demons, often the result of a deceased individual's time spent in the underworld for punishment. They are the result of said punishment, going from regular ghosts into a twisted, corrupt version, from the contact with all of the Red/Demonic Mana in the air of the Underworld itself. The process can take a varying amount of time, but contact with Red/Demonic Mana without proper protection can slowly transform an individual into a demon. Even if they have a mortal body. (Death system will be revealed later). There are several levels and classifications of demon, but the weakest and lowest forms, Demonic Imps, cannot be seen on the mortal plane. Nor can their Imp bodies be present unless in the presence of someone who is capable of forcing them to manifest. Demons can live for ages, some are even immortal, but all of them are capable of being killed. Upper Level demons are immune/resistant to most grades of Holy Water and usually have their own unique method that's required to kill them. They have an assortment of new and unique powers, but can take on whatever form they wish and even possess. However, if they manifest their own bodies, being above Imps, then they often vaguely resemble what they looked like in life. And yes, full demons can be born too. It's possible.   Angels   Angels are....needless to say, immensely powerful cosmic beings, but share many common traits with Demons. Most basic to Seraphim level Angels were originally mortals that chose to undergo divine training after ascending to the afterlife instead of reincarnating. It requires a purification process, after which, they're given tasks to indicate their position and gradually gain their Divine Mana. Eventually evolving and growing into winged beings, capable of flitting between all realms with ease. They retain the powers they had in life, but having a divine boost and have an equally powerful resistance to demonic attacks. Killing demons is easy for most. Archangels however, are the Royal Guard of the Gods if you will. They weren't originally mortals, but they were created by the gods directly to serve them. Angels can reproduce, much like demons, but usually they stay hidden from mortal view. Usually to avoid any loved ones they may have left behind. Being born a full Angel is possible, but very rare, as most angelic beings don't really like interacting with one another, since the Divine Mana they receive affects the personality to a degree.   Divines   Divines, they might not quite be what you're expecting, but this category is for any being that wields Divine Mana in the true sense, but at the same time, isn't truly angelic either. This subrace can often be classified as a secondary subrace too, as even mortal beings, albeit really powerful or unique ones, are capable of being part of it. These are beings or individuals that are greater than average and often have almost reality-breaking power. However, this mostly does include Gods and Goddesses, among other things. The bosses of Angels. So this subrace is pretty self-explanatory to a certain degree.   With that, we have all of the subraces of Ethias too. Though I do intend on going into details of what this has, there are many more other aspects I could also go into. This concludes however, the basics for the people of Ethias. The bare minimum.   Until next time.   ~Aduro Tri.   What would everyone like to read next?
