The Indigo Sky

The Indigo Sky, or as it is sometimes called, the Order of the Dark Goddess, is Etheria's largest international religious organization devoted to the veneration of Eleuthemene the Star-Dappled and the enactment of the goddess' central values in the mortal realm. Liberatory by nature, the Indigo Sky is just as much a humanitarian organization dedicated to social uplift and the liberation from oppression of all people as it is a religious order committed to the Star-Dappled. That being said, the two are not so dissimilar; after all, to engage in the progressive, magnanimous acts which Eleuthemene inspires and carries out is to honor the goddess, and to honor the goddess is to engage in such acts.    To no surprise, then, the Indigo Sky frequently offers material, spiritual, and economic aid to the impoverished, the homeless, and the disenfranchised at its associated temples, monasteries, and convents across Etheria. At such locations, a warm meal and a roof over one's head are always offered and are always available to all who need the aid. If one needs coin, a temporary job can surely be found. Orphans and street urchins are a frequent sight on the premises as the Indigo Sky takes them in and sustains them until the next agent from the Elaeusian polis of Dasikos arrives or until they can find their own footing in the world, either choosing to join the Indigo Sky or going back out into the world better equipped to take it on.   Behind closed doors, the Indigo Sky also functions as a revolutionary force seeking to dismantle the institution of slavery wherever it exists, undermining slavers and their brutal economy as well as providing enslaved peoples resources and opportunities to escape their fate. In the pursuit of this purpose, the Indigo Sky established its largest and most influential religious and activist base, the Astraiophon, in the Elaeusian polis of Meleta, a fittingly egalitarian locale strategically near pro-enslavement Ameros.

Structure

Though an international and sprawling organization, the Indigo Sky is meticulously organized. The Indigo Sky is comprised mainly of clerics, monks, and paladins, with each vocation serving a particular role within the organization, though it also counts among its ranks many oracles and seers.   Residing typically in temples and convents, the clerics of the Indigo Sky serve as the most traditionally "religious" members of the organization, leading services of faith for the public and organization itself and traveling the continent to spread the gospel of Eleuthemene, though they also act as combative defenders of the weak and downtrodden in a pinch. Upon joining the Indigo Sky, clerics abandon their former identities, or at least part of them, and adopt the new surname Silverstar.   Monks of the Indigo Sky, isolated in monasteries in the wildest parts of Etheria, train their bodies and minds in service of the Star-Dappled and her divine goals, taking on the surname Nightwind. In their cloisters and monasteries, monks also devote a significant amount of their time to studies, acting as the Indigo Sky's greatest researchers and scholars.   Paladins, by far the most militant members of the Indigo Sky, are deployed to handle issues with a fist harder than steel and with the stealth of a thief in the moonless night and hence adopt the surname Moonsworn. When not sent out into the wider world on missions, the Moonsworn can often be found training at any of the Indigo Sky's convents, temples, monasteries, or cloisters, practicing for future encounters and guarding the secrets held within the walls of the Indigo Sky's establishments.   Oracles, known by the surname of Deepseer, are also a not altogether uncommon sight in the Indigo Sky, occupying a particular place of privilege and honor as they often have a more direct relationship with the Star-Dappled than others in the Indigo Sky. They spend much of their time hidden away from the other members of the organization in darkened chambers and incense-perfumed shrines tucked deep inside the Indigo Sky's establishments.   Leading the organization is an individual hand-picked by the night goddess herself, a favored follower of the god who has traditionally though not always been a lifelong member of the Indigo Sky, and who is called thenceforth the Starchild. Despite being the chosen leader of the Indigo Sky, the Starchild is not a frequent sight at any of the Indigo Sky's establishments; instead, the Starchild is often spotted alongside Eleuthemene herself, acting as the deity's companion and comrade. When the Starchild does grace the halls of any one of the Indigo Sky's establishments, it is often to utter divine dictates directly from Eleuthemene herself.

In the stars, liberation; in the dark, freedom.
