Ren Uahn the Bloody Bear

Ren Clan Uahn

Born Ren Gaalar Juim's-Daughter Clanheir Uahn, she was the eldest daughter and heir of Juim Clan Uahn.   She spent her early life in Prehrak Burgh in the northern hemisphere of Tau Ceti Beta, with her father, mother Jiirani, her three younger siblings, and her extended family. From an early age she was the accepted heir to the ten thousand strong Clan Uahn, and never had to duel or debate her siblings and cousins for control, and was described by those who knew her as mature for her age, but incessantly inquisitive, adventurous, and playful.   She apprenticed for a short period with the Tau Cetean priests, and like many before her she was denied entry to the simultaneous disappointment and adulation of her clan. She proved a fast learner, soaking up the knowledge the priests fed her like a sponge, but was unable to understand the logic to their decision making, finding it flawed and illogical, despite this they applauded her moral character and acceded to her ascension to Clan Leader, but forbade her from entry into the temple sanctum as all who failed are.   As a teenager she joined the salvage and scrapper crews of her clan, but was kept away from any conflict by her clan, seen as too valuable to spare. Like most children she was taught the art of war, homesteading, vehicle maintenance and repair, and navigation. In addition to the technosorcery taught to her by the priests and the myriad self pursued skills she was earnestly heading toward leading her clan to greater prosperity. On a scavenging mission she led she acquired the twin claws for which she was famed.   But at eighteen she had her fated meeting with Richard LeGuin, son of business magnate Arnauld LeGuin. Interested by his descriptions of foreign worlds, expensive gifts, and some claim, his romantic interest in her, they got into frequent trouble during Richard's short stay.   At the end of Richard's stay on Tau Ceti, Ren accepted an offer from Arnauld through his son to be invited as a guest, and travelled with Richard as he continued on his gap year, before returning with him to Dione and his family home. There it became apparent that Arnauld had different expectations of the two of them than they themselves did. It is clear from his diary entries that Arnauld expected Ren and Richard to marry as soon as was presentable, himself having met his wife (now estranged) in a similar manner, although not on a world as 'savage' as Tau Ceti.   Richard had indeed attempted to court Ren, finding her witty, attractive, and his intellectual peer. But initially only succeeded in a purely sexual relationship. Ren considered him the same, but by coincidence or deliberate intent she did not divulge to him the ins and outs of Cetean courtship, which led the boy to fumble clumsily with expensive jewellery and dinner dates. Only by accident did he stumble onto what constituted legitimate courtship by her by giving her a gold bracelet he had made himself under her tutelage.   Eventually she bored of her role as the LeGuin's honoured guest and sought out employment, however temporary, on Dione. She swiftly learned that whilst she got idle commission from various patrons for her stone and metalwork she found it was not sufficient to maintain her estimated cost of the workshop she was gift by Arnauld. She sought additional income to attempt to repay LeGuin by entering his private military contractor, First Recourse Incorporated. It was in effect a private army, complete with advanced recruitment procedures, weapons manufacturing, and its own military college. She was disappointed to find that instead of any of the combat postings she was assigned as a bodyguard to Richard, in an unsubtle attempt by Arnauld to get the two on course faster. He would be disappointed however as she refused to interact with Richard inappropriately for the duration of her posting and effectively killing their romance, this in turn straining Richard's relationship with his father, and lead her to be reassigned.   From her new position she quickly got to work, easily proving herself an equal combatant and skilled team leader to the other cadets in her class. After disparaging comments about not needing lessons on killing her commander set her what she believed to be an impossible task, and was amazed to see her succeed. Begrudgingly she advanced classes, and was once again easily overqualified for the position. Now on track to officer she was faced with something she had no experience with; social skills. The officer cadets around her considering her a pampered accessory to Richard, or occasionally an uneducated savage. She in turn considered them selfish children merely playing at war, and whilst having never fought an actual battle herself she was better versed than them who had never been within a lightyear of a battle. Several occasions were noted by her instructors as poorly resolved, and only kept peaceful by her staunch moral code against unnecessary fighting. As time wore on and the exercises expanded from theoretical to practical tests she realised the need for cordial relations with her fellow cadets. Whilst some would continue to hold her in disregard, she won over enough of her classmates to form a coherent team for the final exam.   During the first years of her career as a company commander in First Recourse she completed a variety of highly sensitive missions for LeGuin, establishing around herself a number of operators with a similar skillset to herself; wilderness survival, close quarters, and stealth. The fact that half of these operators were from similarly 'savage' worlds and that she was slowly converting them to the ways of Tau Ceti was not lost on her commander, and her detachment was renamed to Bear Company and its emblem changed to a stylised bear, a reference to her nickname the 'She-Bear', all to better reflect its separation from the well drilled machine that was the main   Throughout her career Richard continued to court her. Although also entertaining short entirely sexual relationships with other women at his father's insistence, the two remained romantically entwined. She would spend all her off duty time with Richard, slowly teaching him the ways of her people as she had with her company of soldiers. She even gifted him one of her claws, saying that the two were a pair, just like them. Again this strained Richard's relationship with his father, but told his father that he had no right to interfere considering his relationship with his mother.   She soon became disillusioned with the capitalist society of Dione, recognising that while it allowed some members of society to lead prosperous lives, it trod down on others, in-baked mechanisms in place to ensure that one may fall down the social ladder through failure, ascension to the upper echelons was considerably harder. Further she disagreed that those at the top deserved to be there, in one well referenced debate citing to Richard his own incompetence and lack of skills other than mathematics and classical literature before she taught him.   As time wound on she became more and more frustrated at the effects of her work. Intending to do good with the power handed to her by LeGuin, she found herself thwarted at every turn. For every dirty businessman arrested, for every dictator assassinated, another popped up to take their place. After doing a little digging it turned out that that was rather the point. Ren had the entire time been removing assets disloyal or useless to LeGuin and his empire. She therefore endeavoured to undo his plans. She would take on her own missions, secretly planning missions that did not require her input, utilising her skilled subordinates to disguise her absence, even from her own men. She secretly obtained evidence on a number of illegal operations directly controlled or financed by LeGuin and a shadowy cabal of other business magnates, although she was unable to obtain evidence against these shadow backers.   During this time period Ren became more and more distant from Richard, she finding it hard to lie to him about why she spent so much time at work and what his father was doing, and he wrestling with the delicate balancing act between his desire to maintain the happy status quo they had together and Arnauld's demands that he marry someone, anyone, and produce an heir of his own. They agreed to a year of separation.   This year was to be interrupted when Ren finally discovered the silver bullet that would bring down Arnauld, a plot to assassinate all the sitting members of the Dionian Senate not in his pocket, and went to the Dionian police. She had little idea that some police were also on Arnauld's payroll, and shortly after giving her statement the officers on duty attempted to assassinate her. She killed them and broke her way out of police headquarters and returned to Bear Company.   Subsequently she went underground as arrest warrants were issued against her across the entire solar system. She broke this concealment only twice. The first was to sneak into the LeGuin house, and visit Richard to retrieve her claw, leaving him only a handwritten note in return. The other was to break into sitting senate session and directly deliver hard and electronic copies of her collected evidence directly to the members, she then surrendered to police, but was released on the spot when senators read the evidence within.   Subsequently the private armies of LeGuin and mercenary units funded by his shadows leapt into action in what is called the LeGuin rebellion. Fighting was tense between the Dionian military and the PMCs as many roles had been outsourced to those PMCs in the first place. A vital turning point in the rebellion was a number of defectors from LeGuin's officer corps, crippling their command structure. Further chaos was caused by Bear Company and Ren herself.   During the final battle of the spine Ren caught up with Arnauld and she and her unit fought a battle in the penthouse. Ren managed to capture him but was surprised when one of his own bodyguards executed him before being killed in turn. In the confusion Richard believed that Ren had killed his father.   Richard would later go on to run the LeGuin empire, and would form it into the infamous Dione Corporation alongside several other businessmen.   Ren was however treated lukewarmly by the press, unable to conclusively prove the collaboration of others, she was branded as an uneducated savage. Evidence levelled by her former classmates were rife. This was part of a concerted effort by the shadow cabal to cover their own tracks, and it worked, as a few short weeks after the war had ended Ren was asked to leave Dione.   She would choose to return home, tasting victory, but similarly defeat.   During her time away, Ren's father had retired, and Ren's younger brother Kraa had succeeded him as Clan Leader. She did not attempt to wrest control of the clan away from him however, and worked alongside him to integrate her new immigrants. They meshed well and soon a number of new households formed. Setting a successful example to other Clans, they too began to occasionally accept outsiders who leaned towards a similar mindset as their own. Clan Uahn soon became a major contender for the largest salvage operations.   At fourty years old she darkened the doorstep of the priests once more, asking to talk with them. Of what, nobody knows, but when she emerged a few weeks later she announced that she would be forming a mercenary company made of Clan Uahn members. They would sell their services to foreigners, and would operate a hiring hall in Prehrak Burgh, but would refuse to fight against any Tau Cetean. She encouraged other clans to do the same, and put their skills at arms to the benefit of their Clans. Many did, and so she fought on a thousand worlds, and could command a high fee for her fame and the growing reputation of the Tau Cetean mercenaries. She named her unit the Company of the Bloody Bear, its sigil similar to the one flown by Bear Company.   She died in battle on Yuga at the age of seventy six, succeeded by her two children, Kyra Hurlisk who would go on to win control of Clan Uahn from her cousins when her uncle died, and Jagakl Sen who would lead the Company of the Bloody Bear after his mother.
