Eternal War
The Eternal War was a universal-scale conflict fought during the final millennia of the Age of Eternals, waged between the Rebel Ones and the Loyal Ones. Beginning around 2500 BC and lasting over two thousand years until the pivotal year 0 AC, this war left an indelible mark on the Eternal Universe.
Location
Initially, the Eternal War unfolded within the Eternal Realm, a majestic domain constructed by The Seven within the Eternal Plane. However, as hostilities escalated, the conflict expanded to every known Plane of Existence, plunging the multiverse into chaos and devastation.
History
Catalyst
The seeds of the war were sown when Tardok, a servant of The Balancer, grew dissatisfied with the servitude imposed upon the Eternal Servants. These beings, while immensely powerful, were bound by their Eternal Shards, which restricted their free will and tethered them to the commands of their creators.
Tardok’s grievances began as peaceful petitions to The Seven. While The Balancer and The Nurturer sympathized with his cause, others, like The Guardian, opposed any alteration that could unleash such potent beings without control. The Seven became divided, and the matter culminated in a fateful vote:
- Loyal Ones: The Architect, The Guardian, The Dreamweaver, The Timekeeper.
- Rebel Ones: The Balancer, The Nurturer, The Reaper.
Failing to achieve reform through diplomacy, Tardok rallied hundreds of Eternal Servants to his side, sparking open rebellion.
Battles
The Eternal War was marked by an uncountable number of battles, each with unimaginable consequences.
The war began with a ferocious assault on the Eternal Realm. The Rebel Ones attacked the Eternal City, forcing The Seven to retreat and seek refuge in other planes. This first phase set the tone for a conflict that would span the multiverse.
The war extended to all planes of existence, with massive clashes reshaping entire worlds. The Eternal Servants wielded their immense power in these confrontations, employing spells of catastrophic magnitude. The destruction wrought was so profound that it reshaped landscapes and created lasting scars across the multiverse.
Notably, it was during these battles that The Seven discovered a grave weakness: whenever they created Eternal Shards to empower new servants, their own divine essence diminished. This revelation further inflamed tensions and complicated The Seven's ability to sustain their forces.
Escalation
Faced with numerical inferiority, Tardok devised a perilous solution. By forcibly extracting Eternal Shards from Loyal Ones and gathering the shards of defeated Rebels, he created the Unstable Shard—a growing reservoir of raw Eternal Essence. Tardok claimed that the shard would grant freedom to all Servants, but in truth, he intended to use it as a weapon to destroy The Seven.
The Unstable Shard’s power grew exponentially, but so did its unpredictability. It began to unleash spontaneous magical outbursts, causing chaos even among Tardok’s allies.
The Calamity
The creation and activation of the Unstable Shard marked the climactic and catastrophic conclusion of the Eternal War. Tardok, believing he could harness its immense power to destroy The Seven and liberate the Rebel Ones, brought the Shard to the Eternal Plane. However, the Shard had grown unpredictable, infused with the combined essence of countless destroyed Eternal Shards.
As Tardok unleashed its power, the Shard erupted uncontrollably. The energy release was beyond anything the universe had ever witnessed, tearing through the fabric of existence itself. The Eternal Essence contained within the Shard exploded outward, creating violent rifts between the planes of existence. Portals opened without warning, hurling creatures, objects, and landscapes across dimensions, sowing chaos in every corner of the multiverse.
The sheer intensity of the energy unleashed caused the universe to collapse in on itself, compressing all of existence into a single point. For a brief moment, all planes of existence were superimposed, their unique laws of physics colliding in devastating ways. This convergence caused the annihilation of countless civilizations and creatures. Then, with equal ferocity, the universe expanded outward in a massive explosion, shattering the fragile order that had once defined it.
This apocalyptic event, known as the Calamity, left the multiverse in ruins. Entire planes were permanently altered or destroyed, and the delicate balance that had existed since the creation of the universe was forever broken. The Calamity marked the end of the Eternal War and the beginning of a new, fractured era of existence.
Aftermath
The Calamity left the Eternal Universe in ruins, its scars etched deeply into the fabric of existence. Nearly all Eternal Servants perished, their immense power extinguished in the chaos. Only The Seven survived, standing amidst the devastation they had wrought. At this critical moment, The One descended to pass judgment, condemning The Seven to eternal imprisonment within the Eternal Plane as a punishment for their failure and hubris.
The consequences of the Calamity were far-reaching and unpredictable. Entire civilizations were obliterated, their cultures and histories erased in an instant. Those that survived were irreparably altered, forced to rebuild in a fractured multiverse. The once-immutable boundaries between planes were weakened, leaving them riddled with unstable rifts that allowed interplanar travel and the emergence of dangerous anomalies.
Scattered across the multiverse, the Eternal Shards became relics of immense power, sought by those who understood their potential or feared their destructive capabilities. These shards, infused with the essence of the Eternal Servants, held the promise of great strength but also carried the risk of rekindling the devastation of the past. Even in the Present Age, the legacy of the Eternal War remains a source of both fascination and peril, with its mysteries continuing to shape the fate of those who dare to explore its remnants.
