The Nurturer

Among The Seven, the divine beings who once shaped the Eternal Universe, The Nurturer was the wellspring of all life. It was through The Nurturer’s will that living beings were created, from the smallest blade of grass to the grandest of sentient civilizations. Without The Nurturer, the worlds built by The Architect would have remained barren and lifeless. Where The Architect forged the structure of existence, The Nurturer filled it with motion, spirit, and vitality.

The Role in Creation

The Nurturer’s purpose was to bring life and renewal to all things. This divine being did not merely create organisms but ensured that each was interwoven into a complex, self-sustaining system. From the earliest single-celled entities to the mightiest beasts, The Nurturer guided the development of life across all planes of existence.

While most closely associated with the Material Plane, The Nurturer's influence extended even to the Elemental Planes, ensuring that spirits, primordial entities, and lesser divine beings had a place within creation. It was also responsible for the cycles of birth, decay, and rebirth, instilling the natural order that allows life to persist even in the face of destruction.

It worked alongside The Balancer, who ensured that no single species or force dominated beyond its means, and The Reaper, who introduced mortality as a necessary aspect of the universe’s equilibrium. Where The Nurturer sowed life, The Reaper ensured that death made room for new growth.

Personality and Ideals

The Nurturer was a being of deep compassion, boundless generosity, and unwavering patience. It saw all living things as sacred, each playing a role in the grand design of The One. However, The Nurturer was not without conflict—though it accepted the necessity of mortality, it was known to lament the suffering and loss that came with it.

Unlike The Architect, who pursued absolute order, The Nurturer embraced change and adaptation. To The Nurturer, life was an ever-flowing river, evolving to survive and thrive. This belief often put it at odds with other members of The Seven, particularly those who sought to impose strict structures upon existence.

Depictions of The Nurturer

The Nurturer is often depicted as an ethereal figure of radiant beauty, surrounded by a verdant glow that symbolizes the flourishing of life. Unlike the imposing forms of some of the other Seven, The Nurturer is seen as a warm and compassionate presence, embodying the gentle, nurturing aspects of creation. Many ancient records describe it as a luminous entity with flowing robes woven from leaves, vines, or cascading light, ever-shifting like the cycles of nature itself.

Artistic interpretations vary—some depict The Nurturer as a serene, maternal figure with open arms, while others portray it as a shapeless essence of pure vitality, taking forms that reflect the environments it fosters. In some cultures, it is shown as a great tree with roots extending into every plane of existence, an eternal provider that sustains all life.

Symbols associated with The Nurturer often feature intertwining branches, circles of renewal, or glowing green sigils that represent the unending flow of life energy. Some ruins and ancient texts even suggest that in times of great distress, The Nurturer appeared as a beacon of healing light, guiding lost souls to safety.

The Eternal War and The Nurturer’s Role

When the Eternal War erupted, The Nurturer struggled with the conflict. It sympathized with the Rebel Ones, particularly their desire for free will and self-determination. The Nurturer understood that, in its purest form, life seeks freedom—something that The Seven’s dominion over the Eternal Servants denied.

Despite this sympathy, The Nurturer did not seek destruction or rebellion. Instead, it urged for peaceful resolution, attempting to mediate between the two factions. However, as the war escalated, The Nurturer was forced to take a side. Recognizing that chaos could bring devastation to all living things, it ultimately stood with the Loyal Ones, hoping to preserve as much of creation as possible.

Though reluctant to use its full power, The Nurturer intervened where it could, healing those who had been wounded and restoring lands ravaged by battle. However, when the Unstable Shard was detonated, even The Nurturer’s power could not prevent the catastrophic effects of the Calamity.

Imprisonment and Legacy

After the war, The Nurturer was imprisoned alongside the other Seven within the Eternal Plane, stripped of its ability to directly influence the worlds it had once nurtured. Yet, its presence lingers in all living things. The cycles of nature, the resilience of ecosystems, and the continuous emergence of new species are seen as echoes of its divine touch.

Some Magisters believe that The Nurturer still exerts a subtle influence, ensuring that life finds a way to persist even under the harshest conditions. Others fear that should The Nurturer ever return, it may seek to undo the suffering of mortality itself, an act that could unravel the delicate balance of existence.

The Eternal Shards of The Nurturer

The Eternal Shards created by The Nurturer are among the most revered artifacts in the Eternal Universe. They glow with a verdant green hue, symbolizing life, renewal, and growth. Unlike the shards of The Architect, which impose rigid structure, The Nurturer’s shards pulse with organic energy, allowing life to flourish in even the most barren of places.

Legends say that a wielder of one of The Nurturer’s shards can restore forests, mend grievous wounds, and even revive the recently deceased. However, such power comes at a cost—those who attempt to wield it without reverence may find themselves overwhelmed, consumed by the very life force they sought to control.

Some believe that at least one of these shards remains hidden in the Material Plane, its location lost after the Calamity. Should it be found, it could either become a beacon of healing or a force capable of upsetting the natural balance that The Nurturer once upheld.

The Nurturer in the Present Age

Even in its absence, The Nurturer’s influence endures. Wherever life continues to flourish, where ecosystems recover from destruction, and where mortals defy extinction, The Nurturer’s presence can be felt.

Though sealed behind the Eternal Gate, there are those who believe that The Nurturer may one day return—either as a gentle hand guiding life forward or as an unstoppable force that reclaims what was lost. Whether this would be a blessing or a catastrophe remains unknown.

For now, The Nurturer exists as both a memory and a mystery, a force of boundless creation waiting beyond the veil of the Eternal Plane.
