Unstable Shard
The Unstable Shard is one of the most infamous artifacts in the history of the Eternal Universe. Created during the Eternal War by the Rebel Ones, it was intended as a weapon powerful enough to shatter the dominion of The Seven. Instead, its uncontrollable energy led to the Calamity, an event that altered the very fabric of existence. To this day, the Unstable Shard remains a subject of fear and speculation, its remnants lost, its legacy a grim reminder of the dangers of unchecked power.
Origins and Creation
The concept of the Unstable Shard was conceived by Tardok, the leader of the Rebel Ones, who sought to break free from the control of The Seven. He theorized that by gathering the fragmented essence of fallen Eternal Servants, a new kind of Eternal Shard could be forged—one that did not follow the divine order dictated by The Seven.
Over the course of the war, as more Eternal Servants fell in battle, their shattered shards were collected and fused into a single, chaotic core. Unlike conventional Eternal Shards, which carried structured power tied to a single purpose, the Unstable Shard was an amalgamation of conflicting energies, a raw and untamed force with no inherent balance. Those who attempted to wield it found their own essence warped, their thoughts distorted, as if the shard had a will of its own.
The Power and Unpredictability of the Shard
The Unstable Shard was unlike any artifact before it. Unlike normal Eternal Shards, which amplified the abilities of their wielders in a predictable manner, this shard had no clear function. It radiated an immense, uncontrollable energy that bent the laws of reality in erratic and volatile ways. Among the recorded effects were:
- Reality Distortion: Space and time fluctuated unpredictably around the shard, creating temporary rifts between planes.
- Uncontrollable Manifestation: It could unleash devastating bursts of raw Eternal Essence without command, causing destruction even to those who sought to use it.
- Mental Corruption: Prolonged exposure caused madness, with even the most powerful beings struggling to retain their identity.
- Consumption of Essence: Any being attempting to control it risked having their own Eternal Essence drained, reducing them to nothingness.
Despite these risks, Tardok and his most devoted followers believed they could harness the shard’s power to unravel The Seven’s dominion and reshape the universe in their own vision.
The Detonation and the Calamity
As the war reached its climax, the Rebel Ones made their final move. Tardok, convinced that the Unstable Shard could obliterate The Seven, activated it at the heart of the Eternal Realm. However, the moment the shard was fully awakened, its chaotic energy spiraled out of control.
The shard released a wave of uncontrolled Eternal Essence, triggering an explosion that transcended physical space and time. The Eternal Realm was torn asunder, planes collapsed into one another, and the fundamental order of the Eternal Universe was shattered. This event became known as the Calamity.
Instead of destroying The Seven, the explosion led to The One’s direct intervention. In response to the catastrophe, The One imprisoned The Seven behind the Eternal Gate, ended the Eternal War, and forever changed the structure of existence. The Unstable Shard, having expended its power, was reduced to fragments and scattered across the universe.
The Fate of the Shard’s Remnants
The destruction of the Unstable Shard did not mean its influence had vanished. Legends tell of fragments that survived the detonation, scattered across various planes. These fragments, still imbued with unstable energy, are rumored to manifest reality-warping anomalies, causing disturbances wherever they are found.
Some Magisters believe that these fragments hold secrets to the true nature of Eternal Essence, while others fear that reassembling them could bring forth another catastrophe. Expeditions have been undertaken to locate these remnants, but none have returned with conclusive evidence of their existence.
The Unstable Shard in the Present Age
Despite its destruction, the legend of the Unstable Shard endures. Its mere mention invokes both fascination and terror. Scholars, warlords, and seekers of power all dream of uncovering its lost fragments, while those who understand its history warn of the dire consequences that could arise from meddling with its remnants.
For now, the Unstable Shard remains a relic of a war long past, a symbol of ambition turned to ruin, and a reminder that some powers are beyond even the mightiest beings' control. Whether its remnants will one day resurface and reshape the Eternal Universe once more remains an unanswered question—one that lingers like an echo from the Calamity itself.
