Ghoul

Not so much a species as a condition, ghouls are loosely classified as humanoid creatures that are driven to consume organic sentient species. Ghouls are decidedly unnatural, setting them apart from cannibals. Their condition stems from imperatives imposed by design and/or biology rather than sociological factors.   Because the definition is so loose, ghouls vary in form, intelligence, strength, and most any other trait. Aside from appetite, the only other features common to ghouls is that they are all alive (which distinguishes them from, say, zombies) and retain sentience (which sets them apart from victims of certain known strains of biological weapons).   Perhaps the most well-known (public) examples of Ghouls in Eta One Five were those encountered on Eratve after its re-discovery. Away from the public eye, however, more varied specimens have been kept under wraps to hide the existence of programs with questionable aims and ethics that might disturb the populace.

Basic Information

Dietary Needs and Habits

If a ghoul does not consume members of a sentient species, the ghoul will suffer the effects of malnutrition. The amount of time required to elapse before this occurs varies from strain to strain of ghoul. Some strains also have more particular dietary requirements, limiting choice to the ghoul's own species rather than broadly applying to any sentient organic lifeform.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

While ghouls vary in their manifestations, they typically exhibit the following characteristics:
  1. Above-average strength
  2. A keen sense of smell
  3. The ability to sense fear
  4. Improved low-light vision
