There are pretenders and there are contenders when it comes to the mantle of the Mandate. Many cults of that kind cropped up, laying claim to that right to rulership. Politicians appeal to that esprit de corps when it proves useful. The CSA, however, was no ghost. Not in its heyday. Many of us thought that it was the Mandate come to rise again, for better or worse.
