Arcadrian Magocracy

In the early days of the kingdom, magic was seen as a rare and valuable gift. Those who possessed magical abilities were highly respected and often held positions of power and influence. However, as the use of magic became more widespread and easier to access, the balance of power began to shift.   A group of ambitious and power-hungry mages, known as the Council of the Arcane, saw an opportunity to seize control of the kingdom. They formed a secret society and began working behind the scenes to manipulate events and gain support among the other mages.   As their influence grew, the Council began to openly challenge the authority of the ruling monarch and the traditional noble families. They used their magical powers to intimidate and coerce those who opposed them, and eventually staged a coup, taking control of the government and establishing themselves as the ruling body of the kingdom.   Under the rule of the Council, the kingdom became a magocracy, with mages holding all positions of power and non-mages relegated to subservient roles. The Council implemented strict laws and regulations governing the use and study of magic, and only those who pledged their loyalty to the Council were allowed to practice magic.   The Council became increasingly corrupt and tyrannical as time passed, using their magic to enrich themselves and oppress the non-magical population. Those who dared to speak out against their rule were punished severely, and dissent was swiftly silenced.   As the years went on, the kingdom became a dark and oppressive place, ruled by a tyrannical magocracy that cared only for its own power and prosperity. The once-great kingdom was now a shadow of its former self, its people living in fear and desperation under the iron-fisted rule of the Council of the Arcane.

Structure

each faction represents one of the eight schools of magic , such as abjuration, conjuration, divination, etc. Each faction has its own leader or leaders, as well as a group of mages who specialize in the particular school of magic represented by the faction. The factions operate semi-independently within the broader structure of the magocracy, and have their own goals and agendas.
