Basic Information

Anatomy

In terms of size, fairies are mostly human-sized. They have four limbs and human-like genitalia. All fairies have pointed ears. They have widely varying features. Some fairies are almost indistinguishable from humans while some look almost monstrous.

Biological Traits

All fairies have magic, but some are stronger than most. Magically powerful fairies are often sent to live with other magically powerful fairies who can teach them how to harness their abilities. They are the most magically powerful species. They can create illusions; control items, animals, and people; heal illnesses and injuries; induce sleep; create dreams; control and create nature; change their forms; place enchantments over items, animals, people, or places; grant wishes; and curse others. They have a magical force which can be made visible and resembles a bright light of a different color for each fairy. The light dims when a fairy is weakened and eventually is extinguished when a fairy dies.The strength of a fairy’s magic is dependent on the strength of their life force and can be weakened when the fairy has overexerted themself or is physically weakened or dying. Fairies are very vulnerable to iron.

Genetics and Reproduction

Fairies reproduce sexually. They carry their offspring in wombs where they feed off their mother's magic to help them grow. They have human-like menstruation cycles.

Fairies are omnivores who tend to have a sweet tooth. They typically hunt, farm, or forage for their food.

Fairies are a mostly social species typically living in communities of other fairies. Some fairies live alone or in small groups outside of larger communities due to factors such as social ostracization, war, or personal choice. Fairies’ everyday lives tend to be structured around magic, for example daily tasks being completed through magical rather than non-magical means.

Most fairies live in Elyrea, though there are many communities of fairies outside of Elyrea living close to the coast of the Rusty Sea.

Naming Traditions

Fairy names include a given name, a middle name, and a family name passed down from the fairy's mother.

Major Organizations

The Kingdom of Elyrea is where the majority of fairies reside, though some live in the Kingdom of Evona and the westernmost territories of the Wessian Empire, Arlone and Riezall.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The sapient species outside their own fairies have the most interaction with is humans. Fairies who live in human territories such as Wesse or Evona tend to do their best to avoid humans, though they sometimes will go out of their way to help or harm them, typically without the human knowing. Some fairies will help or protect humans, sometimes out of kindness and sometimes in hope of a reward. Some fairies love to play pranks on humans, most of them being harmless. Some others, however, seek to trick, curse, and hurt them, most often for perceived slights but sometimes just because they see it as fun. For the most part, however, fairies keep to themselves. Fairies are seen differently across different cultures. They are very widely disliked in Wesse especially, though they are more often revered in Evona. Wessian humans and fairies have a long history of conflict. Because of this, fairy communities in Wesse have been almost completely eradicated. Fairies are often killed, abducted, assaulted, or forced into servitude by Wessian humans who see them as dangerous, untrustworthy, and demonic. Fairies outside of Elyrea are often more easily overpowered with the iron weapons and armor humans have, though in Elyrea, they are safer as the land is enchanted to protect the Elyreans from outsiders. In Evona, fairies are highly respected. Communities of fairies are left to their own devices and many humans leave gifts and offerings to them in return for blessings and magical protection.

The physique of fairies varies widely from person to person.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

Fairies tend to have fair skin typical of those in northern Aenir. Fairies often have dark hair and light eyes. They somewhat rarely have blond hair and dark eyes. Faires more often than in any other humanoid population has red hair.
