The Veiled Mountains

Home to the Snowfoxes, the Veiles Mountains separate the warm West of Esterya from the cooler areas in the East, their summits always veiled by a thick, white fog and covered in never-melting snow. Few people dare to take the pathways leading through the mountains, while most take the long ways around, which often make their travels days or even weeks longer, rather than taking the risk. Many have died on these pathways, being surprised by avalanches, slipping on the ice-covered ledges, or failing to find their way back out of the slim ravines.

Fauna & Flora

Rarely anything grows when you go deeper into the veiled mountains, where winter never ends. Hardy herbs, grass and bushes form most of the flora in this cold climate. It is hardly enough for the animals living here to survive, which is why most have adapted by hunting for their food instead of eating greens.   In general there are not many different know species living in the hard conditions of the Veiled Mountains, especially compared to areas like The Eternal Forest. The Snowfoxes made it into their well protected home, wolves roam the ravines, goat-like animals climb along the cliffs, and many others populate the seemingly empty mountains who have rarely ever been spotted, because their white fur camouflages them perfectly against the snow.

Natural Resources

Since the mountains are so difficult and dangerous to navigate, most resources are almost untouched by anyone other than the Snowfoxes. While rarely anything grows on the snow covered stones, many diffrent crystals can be found on and just beneath the surface of the stone walls, especially in deeper ravines. The Snowfoxes used to mine them, but mostly stopped doing this, when their members decreased in number. Especially after their trade with humans stopped, many ceased to see the usefullness in taking on the risk of mining the crystals.
