Almari

The souls of those humans who die in The Eternal Forest have a hard time finding their way out of the woods and into the afterlife, most of them being doomed to roam the woods forever. While adult souls often get corrupted by the shadows of Nocturnis that managed to survive in the dark corners of the forest, hidden away from Lycilia's divine light, the souls of children who ran into the woods and could not find their way back out meet a very different fate. Instead of ther souls being corrupted or roaming the forest until they eventually vanish, they turn into small, ghost-like beings called Almari, also sometimes referred to as "will-o'-the-wisps" or "ghost lights", who are said to lead people deep into the forest just for fun.

What Are They Like

When a child dies in The Eternal Forest, its soul binds to one of the blossoms of Alma-flowers, plants that now become their new "home". These blossoms are also represented in their "physical" bodies. Almari look a lot like what many people expect fairies to look like. They have merely the size of a human head and their upper bodies look a bit like that of human children, but with long pointy ears and hair that seems to be made of blue fire. In fact, their entire bodies look like they are made of blue flames. Their bottom half consists basically of a blue flame originating from an alma-blossom around their waist.   When one brushes against your skin, you might feel a soft warmth that quickly disappears again. They do not speak but many said to have heard high, clear, child-like laughter when they encountered a group of Almari. Meeting an Almari can be quiet dangerous in itself, especially for children. They often play with the child, while leading it deeper to the woods, where they stay by the child's side and keep it happy, until it becomes one of them. In rare instances however, they have been said to actually help children who got lost between the trees and to lead them safely home.
