Brithal, Pride of the Protectorate

The city of Brithal is the only non-land connected section of the Protectorate and largely remains as a point of pride leftover from the the expansion of Mitgia. It serves as an entry point for travelers into the kingdom of Shathun however few there might be. A once strong military outpost that served as the launching point for the Mitgian army has now become a largely self-sustaining town on the edge of the Shathun empire. These days, the town spends a large portion of its resources protecting its borders from those in Shathun as the relationship between the two countries remains largely neutral at best, hostile in reality. Those not guarding the interests of the city find themselves bartering deals with the locals of Shathun as well as unearthing secrets locked away in the surrounding forest. Many years ago, during the War of Enlightenment, Mitgia launched a large military effort to expand their borders all in the name of Xelous. Despite great successes around their main city of Bearde, the efforts to expand into Shathun proved to be quite a challenge. If you ask the locals of Shathun, the Mitgian military discipline was not strong enough to weather the storm that came from the locals of region. Hit-and-run battles and covert sneak attacks helped the largely outnumbered locals fight off the might of the Protectorate. If you asked the military historians of Mitgia, they will tell you that the region was largely of little interest other than demonstrating the military might of the Protectorate. After a long and strenuous war effort (on all fronts), Mitgia called off the war and started to consolidate the areas they did acquire. The small outpost that once served as a home base for the war efforts into Shathun had grown into a bustling town. Brithal remains in place today, under the governance of Mitgia, as a reminder to the Shathun empire of Mitgia's accomplishments.
