Mara (MAH-rah)

A Mara is a sentient plant-like creature that is indistinguishable from a normal plant while it is motionless. They are silent hunters, and can choke the life from you if they catch you with their fronds.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Upon first glance appears to be nothing more than a very large dark flower with a glowing purple center. It does, however roots that act as limbs and grasping vines, these roots are used to choke the life from their prey.

Ecology and Habitats

Swamps are where Mara have been found thus far. That and, surprisingly, within the Blighted Lands.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Mara absorb life energy from hosts as they slay them.

Behaviour

Mara often hide until an unsuspecting entity comes near, and then they attract that entity with an aroma which can poison and charm a creature. Once that has been done, a Mara begins its attempts at strangling and restraining their prey to better absorb their life force.
