Atsetz (Aht-SEH-tehz)

Culture

Instead of saying "Goodbye" they say "May you outrun the Blight" because they are so close to the Blight that they have seen many of their number grow Blighted, or they have seen firsthand experiences of the Blighting.   They are very near ground 0. They are wary of strangers, but if you can pass through the barrier they will provide guest rites, as this means you are not Blighted.    Another thing is the superstition that the Blight will ignore you or you will harbor another day unblighted if you drink from the Spring first thing in the morning, leading to a long line to the spring immediately in the morning, with some residents waking extraordinarily early just to take their daily drink.

Demographics

There is a very studious feeling to the nature of this camp, with the individuals being busy and work oriented-- but there is a very tense blanket feeling of a ticking timeline.    Money is not a worry within Atsetz, as, one, wealth is not oft measured in coin in Eshai, but two-- the research camp was fully invested in order to have been started in the first place. The Matrons of Chaos cover the expenses for everything, with Raincaller Astombrai personally overseeing everything in person.   The majority of the researchers are elven, and most of that lot hail from the city of Chrysalis. Gnomes, Halflings, Bugbears, Goblins, and even Humans can be found amongst the researchers, however.

History

Atsetz began as a research camp at the early onset of the Blight, and over time it became the very edge of the Blight, earning its status as Basecamp and rising to the status of a village with the protection of an Archfey.   However, on the 2nd of Vantu, 21056, the Blight grew rapidly and overtook the village, encompassing it within the borders of the Blightlands. Raincaller Astombrai, an Archfey of the Matrons of Chaos has remained there, within the Blightlands, protecting the village of Atsetz on their own, no simple task.   The remaining Matrons of Chaos now seek individuals to extricate the researchers safely from the Blightlands, with their research in tact, thus hopefully allowing Raincaller Astombrai to safely return to the outskirts without Blighting.

Points of interest

Atsetz is positioned above a source to a freshwater spring. As Atsetz has an Unblighted water source, they have clean water to grow food, sustain the small population, and continue their research. It is a large risk as no one knows how long it will remain Unblighted.

Geography

Within a mile of the Spring is an unblighted area in a sphere, so that mile stretches down into the earth as well. This is heavy forested area, think Land Sea heavy. Outside the village is a hostile environment, anything outside the protection of the Spring/Archfey is Blighted lands and the creatures within are Darklings if not worse.
