Field Trip Gone Wrong

A Field Trip Gone Wrong

The party is on a field trip into the Once Upon a Time Enchanted Forest to investigate newly discovered ruins and gain inspiration for their next writing competition. They are guided by their teachers, Kintala Pinlouial and (Mr. Pick a dice set). Soon after setting off down the forest path, the party begins to notice sounds coming from the forest in a direction leading off from the path. One by one, their classmates disappear until just the party remains. They have no choice but to venture deeper into the unexplored forest in search of their classmates.

Plot points/Scenes

Exams are approaching quickly, and your instructors have decided that a little adventure would do good to relax the students. They plan a trip into the Once Upon a Time Enchanted Forest to study and investigate some newly discovered ruins.
  1. Traveling to investigate discovered ruins
  2. Classmates and teachers are picked off and kidnaped by Dracolaks
  3. find teacher's left behind satchel
  4. set off (hopefully for the ruins)
  5. (May encounter NPC to help or non-magical monster to fight)
  6. Rescue teachers and classmates from Dracolaks
  7. Escape into the ruins where teachers stay behind to guard passage while students find exit
  8. PCs encounter Grifith and through completion of some trial are deemed worthy of passage
  9. PCs discover guarded dragon eggs and an exit and return to catacomb entrance to inform their instructors
  10. PCs find Dracolaks mysteriously gone and venture back through the previously discovered exit with teachers
  11. Outside is a beautiful forest glade cut through by a bubbling brook and over which hangs a rather large star arch. The area is decorated for a celebration picnic. It is revealed to the PCs that the entire "field trip gone wrong" was their exam, and they all passed. Even the Dracolaks were just other students and faculty dressed up to appear as such. The ruins and the dragon eggs however were real, not staged by or, as in the case of the eggs, even seen by the teachers and other participants. No one even knew about them, because no one had been worth of passage and discovery beyond Grifith's trial. So the students return to Atria Academy having passed with flying colors and even discovered one of the last remaining traces of magic in Esencia.

I really like the idea of a trip to get some inspiration for a writing competition! I do wish you had gone in more depth about how the plot is meant to be run. I hope you get a chance to build upon it in the future :)
