Discovery of Magic

The Dofuan's Discovery of Magic

North of La Mer Verte, a small, natural cave resides on the side of a hill. At first glance, nothing special contains it. However, Dofuan archaeologists have studied the place, and have recently come to the conclusion that ancient Dofuan lived there. A pile of ash sits in the center, however is scattered harshly to one side. On the opposite of the scattered area, is a hole, torn open, almost like an explosion. Scattered and fragmented rocks surround the area. It is suspected that these ancient Dofuan had already learned of magic, and had the knowledge necessary to turn it into a written form. Inside the hole leads into a cavern of maze-like proportions. The study of the area is incomplete, and experts have suggested that only 3% of the artificially made cavern has been discovered. Dofuan archaeologists have, however, found a section of large drawings that display the discovery of magic in animated form. It plays on repeat, suggesting these Dofuans not only had written magic, but had studied it enough to figure out how to move their artificial creations. The story starts with a small group of Dofuan, 7 of them. They move across the wall, and eventually find themselves a mammoth. They raise their pointed sticks, and charge blindly at the colossal beast. Two Dofuans are immediately smashed into bone, dust and blood. One of them touches their head, appearing to be overcome with rage and grief. In a moment without notice, the mammoth is engulfed in flames. It stampedes around and, flailing and unable to put itself out, collapses. The one who had touched his head also collapses, as one other spears the mammoth. Two others are seen helping the collapsed one up. The one who collapsed now has a circle over their head The scene changes then, and the one with magic is circled with its peers, facing one with a stick. After a moment, they all bow to him.

The Khaosai's Discovery of Magic

The Khaosai have a legend of their first experience with magic. It is said the legendary Manao The Brave fought a duel against the Oppressor Sushai. Sushai was a strong opponent, but Manao was stronger. He locked his horns against Sushai’s, kneed him in the groin, and then bashed Sushai’s face in with his bare hands. This broke Manao’s hands, swelling to as large as an Aimu’s head. His wife, Jairi, cried for him after the duel as they held hands. One swollen like an elephant, the other too small to even hold the swollen hands. Then, Jairi’s hands begin to glow bright blue, as bright as the sun and as blue as an ocane tree. Slowly, Manao’s hands began to shrink in size. The black and blue bruising disappeared and its color returned to a normal tan and copper tone. Jairi, having saved their Hero, made her their first Empress.

The Human's Discovery of Magic

The Humans are a little different. Magic was new, and different. They had lived this long without it, why do they need it now? An old book, written in Proto-Galican, told of an account of a gord discovering magic for the first time. The story goes that a small fight had broken out between two rival tribes. One was a peacemaker, a wise woman who worked a loom and made intricate, detailed designs. Tiris was determined to get them to stop fighting, however when her child was placed in danger, she lashed out, and burned everyone around her, including her child. Her child and three other did not survive the wounds. Distressed and horrified, the town locked her away while deciding her punishment. The gord’s small counsel decided to charge her with 4 murders, and she was sentenced to death. She gracefully accepted, however, since she was a valued member of their society, she and her husband had a funeral pyre.
