Solara Bastions
Solara Bastion
Population: ~42,000
Location: Western end of the Sacred Mountain Corridor, overlooking the Sunscar Flats
Function: Military stronghold, war college, border command, and propaganda hub
Solara Bastion is the gleaming spear-tip of the Bastions of Solara. Its the first line of defense at the edge of the sacred corridor to the west leading into the heart of the nation. Carved into the cliffs like a god’s throne, the fortress looms with the weight of holy war, casting long shadows over those who would challenge Solara’s might.
From the outside, it is blindingly beautiful: gold-veined stonework, radiant banners that shimmer with heatless flame, and statues of winged warriors with blades drawn skyward. But within those polished walls lies a brutal truth—the city is one enormous training ground, a crucible for zealotry and control. Soldiers are sculpted here, not just trained. Righteousness is forged like iron, bent until it obeys.
Leadership
Commander-Militant Vaeron Solmarch rules the city as both fortress lord and warpriest. Clad in radiant steel and crowned with a halo of blessed fire, he is the embodiment of lawful fury. Vaeron is a battlefield legend and political beast—capable of rallying troops with scripture and executing deserters with the same hand. Behind his eyes flickers a long history of “necessary violence.”He serves under, and reports to High Marshal Thessira.
High Marshal Thessira Dawnrend, Supreme General of the Sunblade Legions. Known as the "Dawnstorm," Thessira is a brilliant strategist and merciless reformer who purged half the officer corps during the last “Solar Reassessment.” Rumors say her loyalty is not to any single Highlord—but to the Legions themselves. she is long been rumored as a favorite to replace the next Highlord to retire.
Districts
The Emberwatch Walls:
The outer defense ring—multi-layered walls lined with archways, burning sigils, and sunsteel ballistae. Home to barracks, mess halls, and signal towers. Torchlight never dims. Patrols rotate in unbroken cycles. Prisoners are often held in the Vault of Reclamation, where they are "redeemed" through servitude.
Dawnblood Ward:
Central plaza and command district. Contains the Hall of Radiant Oaths (military command center), the offices of Commander Solmarch, and the Legion treasury. Statues of fallen commanders serve as silent sentries. A public execution square called the Sunmirror reflects midday light into the eyes of those condemned until the heat and radiant light extinguishes them.
The Crucible Path:
The military academy and training district. Home to the Sanctum of Flamebound Discipline, the war college where officers are molded into “sunsworn.” Cadets train in radiant arms, tactics, mounted warfare, and obedience doctrine. Graduates take the Oath of Resolve, binding their service to light… and law.
Hearth of Brass:
An industrial district of divine forges and armorworks. Crafts magical armor, sunblades, war standards, and radiant siege engines. Also produces civilian goods.
The Shadeground (Unofficial):
Beneath the city’s lowest level lies a tangle of tunnels and hollowed barracks once used in the early wars. Now half-forgotten, it houses drifters, failed recruits, and soldiers with injuries too political to treat. Rumors whisper of a hidden order known as the Sunbroken, formed of disillusioned legionnaires wielding dark corruptions of sunblades known as Nightfangs. Most Legionaries know it is an area best left unexplored.
Tone and Reputation
Solara Bastion is known far and wide as the spine of Solara's might—honorable, relentless, and unshakable. But its image is polished daily, often at the cost of those too weak, wounded, or willful. It is a place where you can become a hero... or a ghost no one asks about.
Obedience is praised. Dissent is cleansed. And glory, as always in Solara, is best earned when someone is watching.
