Ciliren

Ciliren (Capital City)

Ciliren is the largest city in Eryndor, home to over a million people and the heart of gnomish civilization. Roughly 40% of the population is gnomish, the rest are from every species in the world. Built atop a plateau that overlooks a mighty river and the sea, Ciliren pulses with arcane energy and technological brilliance. Governance lies in the hands of the Arcane Council—five gnomes representing the nation's magical schools, with the Governor of Ciliren serving as the council’s head.

Ciliren is ruled by Governor Arvella Zynnbarrel, Chair of the Arcane Council. She is known for her sharp mind, cool demeanor, and relentless pursuit of efficiency. Her background in magitech law and economic engineering makes her a formidable administrator.

Districts

Ciliren is divided into seven vibrant districts:

1. Clockwork Heart – The governmental and administrative core, home to the Iron Spire (Governor’s mansion), the Hall of Innovators, and the Nexus Spire.

2. Arcane Quarter – A hub of magical theory and practice, filled with arcane shops and small magical academies like the Etherium Laboratories.

3. Gilded Gears – The financial and industrial center, housing the Titan Forge (construct foundry) and the Vault of Brass, the world’s most secure bank.

4. Skyward Spires – An affluent residential area boasting theaters, the Skyforged Market, and the Aerodrome for airship traffic.

5. The Burrows – A bustling middle-class district full of guild halls, taverns, and cultural landmarks like the Festival Grounds and Tinker’s Square.

6. The Lower Wards – A rough, working-class neighborhood infamous for blackmarket dealings in the Guttering Lantern and the poverty-stricken Iron Coil and Crypts.

7. The Bastion – A fortified military ring storing constructs and housing the Automaton Barracks.

Ciliren’s economy is heavily tied to magitech exports, public contracts for construct policing, and the maintenance of the continent-spanning rail system known as “Central.” It is a marvel of organized chaos, ambition, and invention.

Ciliren’s Magical Academies

Ciliren is home to five different magical academies and universities mostly focussed on artificery and constructs.

The Brassleaf Institute

Focus: Sustainable Magitech & Arcano-Botany
District: The Burrows
Leader: Professor Thistle Drenwick
Flagship Project: Verdant Limbs — self-repairing botanical prosthetics and construct-appendages
School Description:
Hidden among greenhouse domes and moss-strewn lecture halls in The Burrows, Brassleaf is a haven for green-robed gnomes and druids who meld nature with magical machinery. The school’s forges hum with enchanted roots, and students debate bio-arcane ethics while pruning sentient vines. Their work champions sustainable crafting, particularly for rural applications and low-energy constructs.

Rivalries & Drama:

Bitter rivals with Voltagrim, accused of contaminating the ley-lines with fragment overuse

Suing Iron Loom over hybrid chloroforge patents

Lost a major seed-golem blueprint during a suspected Cogveil break-in

The Voltagrim Academy

Focus: Elemental Energy Conversion & Fragment Stabilization
District: The Gilded Gears
Leader: Arch-Inventor Pellix Jarn
Flagship Project: Thundercore Loop — a storm-fragment reactor used in aerial constructs and grid defense
School Description:
The Voltagrim Academy crackles with lightning and ambition. Based in the Gilded Gears' industrial quarter, this school reverberates with humming fragment capacitors, pressure-sealed labs, and hazard sirens. Students are trained in field-stabilization, explosive prevention, and emergency magitech shutdowns. Voltagrim powers everything from skyship docks to fragment-battery cores used across Eryndor.

Rivalries & Drama:

Openly mocks Brassleaf as “mud-coaxers”

Recently lost top talent to Cogveil, triggering internal review of recruitment policies

Covered up a lab explosion that scorched three city blocks

The Gearwright Seminary

Focus: Divine-Affiliated Constructs & Religious Automation
District: Clockwork Heart
Leader: High Cantor Essra Velwyn
Flagship Project: Cantor Sentinels — mechanical temple guards that chant protective scripture
School Description:
Nestled beside the Iron Spire in Ciliren’s government center, this seminary produces holy war-machines and clerical support constructs. Hymnal harmonics power half their lab devices, and even their architecture sings. Students study sacred geometry, divine-circuit infusion, and holy glyph-sequencing. Often contracted by temples and courts alike.

Rivalries & Drama:

At odds with Iron Loom, whose pragmatism clashes with faith-based crafting

Secret alliance with Cogveil to experiment with stealth-chaplains

One Sentinel began reciting apocalyptic verses—investigations ongoing

The Cogveil College

Focus: Cloaking Tech, Invisibility Fields & Arcane Encryption
District: Skyward Spires
Leader: Dean Vixellin “Shadecoil” Marr
Flagship Project: Whisperbugs — stealth drones for scouting, infiltration, and data extraction
School Description:
High above the cobbled boulevards of Skyward Spires, Cogveil hides in plain sight. The school is heavily warded, changes appearance daily, and contains more mirrors than doors. Students specialize in antimagic coating, arcane erasure, and sensory manipulation. Cogveil agents often vanish into shadows or reappear testifying in court — with magically untraceable recordings.

Rivalries & Drama:

Feared by all — rumored to spy on even the Arcane Council

Hostile with Iron Loom over stolen encryption runes

Involved in a blackout incident that wiped power from 14 city blocks for 3 hours — but no charges ever stuck

The Iron Loom

Focus: Fabrication Golems, Recursive Crafting & Pattern Engines
District: Arcane Quarter
Leader: Forge-Master Grelda Brasshand
Flagship Project: Forgescribes — autonomous golems capable of crafting enchanted items from blueprints
School Description:
Towering smokestacks and rune-burned factories mark the Iron Loom’s campus. Built like a forge-temple hybrid, it churns out recursive enchantment prodigies and golemwrights who can mass-produce war tools or wondrous gear. Rigid discipline, brutal exams, and prototype duels keep only the most adaptable minds in its ranks.

Rivalries & Drama:

Looks down on all other schools as “small-shop thinkers”

Feuding with Gearwright Seminary over “sacred blueprint sanctity”

A runaway Forgescribe built its own golem apprentice and fled — last seen buying scrap and quoting poetry
