The Coastline of Argoll

The rocky coastline of Argoll is among one of the most dangerous shorelines on the planet, however one would not know this lest they pass through the thick ring of fog that surrounds its perimeter.   The fog ring is about 2.5 nautical miles in depth, is completely opaque, and absorbs all surrounding sound, engulfing the ships that venture through it in an eerie and still silence. During the last stretch of this seemingly endless journey through the slate grey wall of mist, the outline of the Argoll peninsula slowly peeks into view, and the roaring sounds of crashing waves emerge with it. At this juncture, it is too late for the ships to retreat for they are pulled deep into the surging tide.   The choppy waters and towering, jagged sea stacks leave the expanse of this coast littered with the debris and wreckage of wayward ships. No vessel caught in this deadly course arrives ashore in one piece. Those who survive the carnage and manage to wash safely to shore instantly notice the “sea gel” that clings to their person. This odd, warm, viscous, gelatin-like substance is accompanied by a vile, coppery scent. Unbeknownst to these survivors, this sea gel is what permits their safe entry into the thick forest of Ersterwald, the woods that border the edge of this beachy shore. The strong stench of the the sea gel masks the scent of the newcomers, effectively keeping the creatures that inhabit this deadly forest at bay.
