Dryadalis - The Elf District

Under the community of Gadael, the elves ban together to form the district of Dryadalis. Dryadalis reflects the elvish belief that nature should remain at peace and is to be left unharmed. Unlike the other occupants of Gadael who chop down trees and dig up the earth to suit the space to their own needs, the elves adapt to their surroundings, only lightly manipulating the space around them in such a way that does not harm the natural life.   Rather than forming a clearing or large space like the other districts, the elves use the Ersterwald magic to influence and re-direct the growth and formation of the surrounding trees’ branches. In other words, the tree branches are manipulated in such a way that hut-like treehouse structures are formed for living quarters without causing any harm to the tree itself. Because the entire settlement is formed among the treetops from natural, undisturbed resources, it has the advantage of being generally hidden and well concealed from outsiders and dangerous forest-dwellers.   However, because this settlement strongly relies on the use of Ersterwald magic, which is notorious for its rare, but very much existent unpredictability, its use can sometimes lead to chaotic and dangerous side effects. One potential threat includes the “gyrating branch effect” which has only been recorded twice in Dryadalis history. “Gyrating branch” will result in a “hut” or tree branch formation twisting itself uncontrollably into a giant knot, grinding any current occupants to a pulp. Another potential threat, not nearly as gruesome but just as deadly, is “stingy branch”. A “stingy branch” will suddenly snap out of the manipulated hut or house formation, and revert to the tree’s natural state, ultimately dropping any current occupants to their death. Those that occupy Dryadalis are aware of the risk they take when using Ersterwald magic to support their community. They would ultimately rather risk the small off-chance of being randomly crushed or squeezed to death than to harm the life and environment around them.
