The Always Open Door

The Always Open Door is an order of grave clerics and way of mercy monks who worship Berath, the god of cycles, doors, and death. They are dedicated to easing the passage of the dying into the afterlife and providing comfort to the bereaved. The members of the order are often quiet and wear masks, which serve to keep their focus on the transition of souls rather than the earthly concerns of those around them. Their calm and assured presence brings comfort to those they attend to. The way of mercy monks among the order are especially skilled in the use of healing arts and are known for their gentle touch and soothing presence.   The order has its roots in the history of Berath and is believed to have been founded by the god's earliest followers. In the early days, members of the order would travel the lands to attend to the dying and the bereaved, offering words of comfort and prayer as well as assistance with the final rites. Over time, they became more established and developed their own methods and traditions.   Today, the Always Open Door maintains a network of hospices and sanctuaries throughout the world, where the dying can find comfort and care in their final days. These locations are often in secluded and peaceful areas, where the dying can spend their last days in peace and tranquility.   The order also works to educate the living about the importance of caring for the dying and provides training for caregivers and family members. They see their work as a vital aspect of the cycle of life and death, and their ultimate goal is to ensure that all who pass through their care find peace and acceptance in their transition to the afterlife.
