Roman Viriath

The outlaws of Venatorian territory tend to reside in the wilderness, as to avoid being stamped out by the iron fist of the Venatorian Empire. There is one exception to this rule, and his name is Roman Viriath.   Rebel, thief, mastermind, romantic, hero, villain and friend to the Clans of the Ceilic Region, Roman Viriath has been called many things by many people. The only thing the people of the Venatorian Empire can all agree upon is that he's certainly made his presence known.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Roman Viriath was born in the city of Venator Terminus, where he was abandoned by his mother at the age of four and taken in by the city's orphanage. Roman's childhood was a hellish experience due to the abusive nature of the headmaster of the orphanage. Roman Viriath watched as children came and went from the orphanage, being adopted within months while Roman had been there for years. At the age of fourteen, Roman began to sneak out of the orphanage at night, just to be able to experience the real world. This small act of rebellion filled Roman with so much joy and pleasure that he began to grow braver and bolder and so he began stealing from markets and pickpocketing those who he thought deserved to be brought down a notch.   When Roman Viriath was fifteen, one of the new additions to the orphanage caught his eye, a girl his age who had a look Roman had only seen in the mirror: an acknowledgement that the whole world was against them. Roman had only known cruelty and apathy towards others, and yet something within him demanded that she must not experience that. He found out that her name was Neo Litano, and that her parents finally decided to place her into the custody of the orphanage due to the fact that she was born mute. Through pen and paper, Neo told Roman about how she was always confined to the house, as her parents saw her as an embarrassment, tried to make her into something she wasn't and beat her whenever she behaved in a way that they felt to be unbecoming.   Roman Viriath saw something in Neo Litano that filled him with a sense of kinship that he did not fully understand. He began bringing her with him whenever he snuck outside. She gave him the friendship he never had before, and he was the first person she had met that wanted her to be her true self. It wasn't long before they were completely inseparable, becoming braver with the other at their side, which made most of the orphanage staff assume that he was a poor influence on her. The two began dreaming of a life outside of the orphanage, where they would be free to do as they wished without anybody being able to stop them.   At the age of sixteen, the two ran away from the orphanage, setting their sights on Venator Fortuna, as Roman believed that he would have an easy time riffling through the pockets of the rich while they were carelessly gambling while drunk. After the long journey north, the pair finally arrived in Venator Fortuna. When not pickpocketing, Neo found work at a fish farm, while Roman landed a job as a card dealer for a casino. Roman was paid by many to rig games, which he was more than happy to do as long as he was given a part of the spoils. After one too many riggings, Roman found out that he had cheated the wrong people, as one of the victims of one of his rigged games was a leader of a small group of bandits. The bandit leader, and three of his men grabbed Roman after he had finished his shift and dragged him into an alleyway. While the leader of the bandits held a knife to his throat and threatened him, Roman remained calm. He waited for the bandit leader to loosen his grip on the knife while he was shouting, and when it happened Roman leapt onto the opportunity and managed to pry the knife away, and knocked the bandit leader to the ground. Before his men could stop Roman, he already had his knife to the bandit leader's throat. The bandit leader started to grovel, and beg pathetically, which Roman ignored, instead addressing his men and asking them "Is this really who you want to follow? A tired old fool who will lead you nowhere? Or you could follow someone who's going somewhere." Roman dropped the knife and walked away, as the bandit leader's men abandoned him to follow Roman.   At that moment, Roman was reborn, going from corrupt card dealer to ambitious crime boss. He and Neo immediately quit their jobs and began scheming, and eventually decided to use their new manpower to perform a robbery, and stole dozens of valuables from a magic item shop. He decided to keep one of the items, a necklace that allows the wearer to create illusions, both visual and auditory. He gave the necklace to Neo, as a way to give her a way to easily communicate without a pen and paper. This act of generosity deepened their bond, and their relationship quickly turned romantic.   Over the years, Roman's name grew in infamy, as did his influence and wealth. He would arrange heists, thefts and robberies, yet he remained untouchable to the Venatorian law. Roman Viriath has become the Venatorian Empire's most notorious crime lord, with Neo Litano as his partner-in-crime and right hand woman.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

When Roman was young, all he wanted was to become a famous thief, as a way to ensure that he would never be ignored and overlooked again. After he met Neo, and got to know her, what he wanted was to live free with her. And after he got that wish, he gained a new goal: to gain as much wealth as possible so that the two of them could live happily.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Roman is a skilled thief, with deft hands and quiet feet. He can steal a coinpurse without even thinking about it, and can take a piece of jewellery without the wearer noticing its absence.   Roman Viriath is a master tactician, who has managed to thwart private security forces and Venatorian authorities for years, with no sign of slowing down. He is always one step ahead of those who would try to arrest him, and always manages to surprise those who believe that their businesses cannot be robbed.   Roman Viriath is a skilled liar and manipulator, who has created several rackets and false businesses, scamming fortunes away from Venatorian elites. Those who have met Roman without seeking his services often end up being conned out of their money. He has tricked Venatorian elites into buying false goods, and has convinced both mercenaries and bandits to turn on their former leaders and employers.   Roman is adept with his weapon of choice, a decorated cane which has been hollowed out and turned into a firelance. He is proficient at close range combat, though he is self taught.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Roman Viriath has done business with many who the Venatorian Empire are disgusted by. He has traded stolen Venatorian weapons to the Adamant Wolves, exchanged military secrets with the Lost Legion, and has sold gunpowder he stole from the Venatorian Empire to Clan Laoc and Clan Gansúil.

Family Ties

There is nobody who has ever lived that Roman cares more for than Neo Litano. He has always felt that it was the two of them against the world. Neo was the first person who Roman had met that was neither hateful or indifferent towards him. And Roman was the first person who did not only want accept her for being herself, but genuinely liked who she was. Both are hellbent on ensuring that the other one stays happy, and will go to any lengths to support each other. While they shared a close bond during their childhood, early into their life of crime their relationship became romantic in nature.

Social Aptitude

Roman Viriath is a charming gentleman to those who are under his employ, and to the employees of businesses he is robbing as long as they cooperate. To his enemies, Roman is something to be feared, ruthless and cold, with no concern for the wellbeing of those who get in his way. He loves to mock his enemies, and regularly taunts legionnaires who try to stop him on his many heists.

Wealth & Financial state

Roman Viriath has managed to accumulate a massive fortune over his years as a crime lord, with more wealth than the average Venatorian noble. This wealth is largely due to the vast amounts of robberies, heists and scams that he has committed.   Roman has a large number of men in his employ, mostly former bandits and mercenaries. He is a rather appealing employer, due to his history of success, tactical genius and the fact that his men do not need to hide out in the wilderness.
