Personal history

Odysseus is the king of the free city state of Ithaca, to the north of the Authenian Republic. He was forced to fight in the Trojan war as he had sworn an oath to protect the marriage of King Menelaus and his wife, Helen, who had recently been abducted by the Trojan prince, Paris, with the help of Aphrodite. Odysseus tried to feign madness, as he did not want to leave his wife or his newborn son, and he did this by plowing his fields haphazardly with his plow being pulled by an ox on one side and a donkey on the other, making one side move faster than the other. Odysseus had to drop his act when Agamemnon, the brother of Menelaus, put his newborn son in front of the plow. When Odysseus steered the plow away with masterful precision, it proved that his mind was healthy, and he reluctantly went to war.   During the Trojan war, Odysseus showed his brilliant tactical mind, creating cunning traps and unpredictable military maneuvers. He was also the stealthiest of the Acheaens, the army that seiged Troy, and infiltrated Trojan outposts multiple times.   After the death of Achilles, the greatest fighter in the Acheaen army, Odysseus fabricated the most brilliant scheme of the entire war. He had a giant, wooden horse constructed and sent to Troy, along with a messenger saying that the entire Acheaen army had retreated and that the horse was dedicated to Athena, and that whilst destoying the horse would curse Troy, bringing it into the city would bring them luck and good fortune. The Trojans decided to bring the horse into their city. After nightfall, the entire Acheaen army sprang from the Horse, and laid waste to Troy, burning the city to ash and rescuing Helen.   When the Trojan War was over, Odysseus had to sail home, as did most soldiers and their kings. Throughout the war, Odysseus had managed to anger many gods, though Poseidon in particular, as Odysseus had killed one of his sons. Poseidon's wrath killed all of Odysseus' crew, and delayed his arrival home by ten years, making it twenty years since he had been home. Upon returning home, Odysseus disguised himself as a beggar, as to assess the situation of his kingdom. He discovered that his wife, Penelope, had various suitors pressuring her into marrying them. Odysseus advised his wife, whilst still disguised, that she should only marry someone similar to Odysseus. Penelope organized a challenge to all he suitors: Whoever can string Odysseus' old bow, which was incredibly rigid and unwieldly to most men, and fire an arrow through twelve axe shafts may have her hand in marriage. None of the suitors could manage to even string the bow. At that moment, Odysseus stood foward, and asked if he could try. Penelope allowed it, and Odysseus quickly stringed the bow and fired through all twelve axe shafts with ease. Odysseus then shed his disguise, but Penelope was still in disbelief, thinking that this could just be a god in disguise, and so she asked her servant to move her bed into their wedding chamber. Odysseus protests, as he made the bed himself and knew that one of its legs was a living olive tree. Penelope accepts that this is her husband, and burst into tears of joy.   For the past twenty five years, Odysseus and Penelope have ruled over Ithaca side by side.
