Takeshi charges the orc, sword held at the ready, but misses his mark as the orc deftly steps away, deceivingly nimble on his feet. As Takeshi starts to fall, he's caught by Alarandae, the beautiful elf woman who wields a bow and arrow with unearthly precision and grace. "Clear!" shouts Shakar, the dark-skinned sorcerer from the harsh desert lands, as he hurls a fireball which explodes with a roar, turning the orc's minions to dust. Just as the orc bellows and makes to charge at Takeshi, enraged, a spectral hammer appears and bashes in the attacker's skull, a blessing granted to Vondal Caebrek, a stout dwarf from the Shield Mountains, from his patron, the god Moradin.   Sir Everard takes a shaky breath, attempting to calm himself before the impending council meeting -- it had been a long while since he'd kept council with royals. "Relax," says Mary Reedfellow, a halfling and one of Everard's travelling band of companions. "You'll be fine. Just tell them what we saw -- the banners over the hills, and the burned villages." "Yeah, but it was you and your hawk that saw 'em. Not me," replied Sir Everard. "They respect you, and you know how to talk to them better than any of us," chimed in the smooth-talking tiefling leaning against the wall with his hood pulled up. Sir Everard chuckles, "that's high praise coming from you."

The world is full of magic and mystery, ruled by kings and lords, and home to a great many races besides humans. Ancient civilizations have forged powerful items which can be found in the ruins scattered around the world, their histories lost to legend. Monsters and exotic materials can be used to brew powerful potions. Gods can occasionally be called upon to manifest blessings to aid their followers. Political alliances are forged and broken. Sometimes, outsiders from other worlds visit to help, hinder, or simply explore.

The gates are open to you, traveler, adventurer, wanderer, storyteller, hero, villain.... Choose what name suits you, and explore the world. But do not make the mistake of disregarding caution, for the world is dangerous. Beyond the many dangers, the world is yours to explore.
