Lapis Lazuli; A Dwarven Treasure

Lapis Lazuli is a bright blue ore that is very rare in Erce. Only the dwarves have ever found it, and what little they mine, they keep to themselves, only giving it to the most trusted friends and allies.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Lapis Lazuli is a bright blue, glowing crystal. It has a diamond shape, and has a magical glow that is often used for lighting in most dwarf kings' palaces.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Lapis Lazuli is warm to the touch. It is extremely useful, because it can be forged into weapons and armor, and is extremely durable and tough. It makes excellent swords, as once forged, its edges are very sharp.

Compounds

Lapis Lazuli is used in the making of mithril, making it very important to the dwarves, as mithril is prized over almost everything else they dig from the earth. The dwarves mix it with silver, and then hammer it flat. They then fold it onto itself and continue to hammer it flat, repeating this process until the silver and lapis lazuli have mixed completely, and formed into a thin, durable sheet.

Geology & Geography

Lapis Lazuli is found deep in the earth, usually near the caves of earth elementals. It has only ever been found in dwarven mountains, as dwarves are the ones who mine the deepest. Even gnomes cannot equal the dwarves for mining skill.

Origin & Source

Lapis Lazuli is extracted from the ore Lazurite. Lazurite ore emits a faint blue glow, and is extraordinarily shiny, much shinier than mica.

Life & Expiration

Lapis Lazuli is an amazing ore, because it never loses its durability or magic.
Odor
Lapis Lazuli smells faintly of cherry blossoms, and whoever smells it becomes happy.
Color
Lapis Lazuli is a bright azure in color.
Melting / Freezing Point
Lapiz Lazuli melts under the heat of dwarven furnaces, and no other furnace can become hot enough to melt it. It has never been frozen before, making it the ideal armor for a trip to the frost giants.
Common State
Lapis Lazuli has been found as an ore, and very rarely as a pool of blue liquid (usually near some lava).
