Session Report 94
General Summary
The battle between the Muskrats and the snakes continued within the boulder filled pit. The gemstone serpents slithered quickly towards Tazmeth and Cambio. The large, ruby-like gems on their foreheads started to shimmer and a blast of magical energy emanated forth. The energy struck deep within their bodies attempting to infect them with some disease known as corpse cough. Thankfully, Tazmeth and Cambio were hardy boys with a strong immune system. The two readied themselves for the battle and moved in to attack the serpents. Dami charged in behind to provide assistance. Meanwhile Itzal had polymorphed into a dragon and had taken flight to do battle with the alnaars who were closely following. The exchange of claw, fangs, fire, and cold dragon's breath saw the alnaars plummeting to the ground. A heavily wounded Itzal-dragon's-skin rushed to the aid of his allies on the ground. With the combined might of the Muskrats on the ground against the serpents, they made quick of them and the Muskrats had successfully beaten the Trial of Relentless Onslaught.
The next trial was the Trial of the Sovereign Summit, a king of the hill style challenged. To win a member of a group had to wear a crown for thirty consecutive seconds and remain on the hill. While wearing the crown, the member could not attack or harm another. The Muskrats were one of four groups to compete. One group was a group of Iron Maw gladiators, another was a group of druids turned drakes that were led by the archdruid Fastina. Finally, the Black Emerald Banner was competing. They were led by a drow mage by the name of Bruhoyn. The other members of the Black Emerald Banner were Rhek, a kenku rogue, Grond, a hill giant, and finally, Evan Suyra, a barbarian disciple of Ulog. As soon as the trial began, the Ion Maw gladiators charged the hill. Evan was close to follow as was Dami. Unfortunately for those gathered on the hill, the brimstone drakes led by Fastina descended upon the hill and let out breathe attacks similar to a volcanic eruption. The hill was bathed in lightning and volcanic ash. The gladiators collapsed and one group was eliminated within seconds.
Then the drakes were caught between the Muskrats and the Black Emerald Banner. Fastina fought valiantly to protect her allies but soon she was killed. The drakes remaining were quickly compelled by Bruhoyn by his mind altering magic to fight for their side. Grond charged the hill hoping to remove any Muskrats from the hill. Itzal had been waiting for this move and begin to weave his spells to control and disable the giant before he could cause any havoc. Rhek on the other hand turned invisible and disappeared. Tazmeth soon discovered that Rhek had taken flight and was raining down arrows on him from a hidden point in the sky. Rhek continued to switch positions during the fight and the Muskrats struggled to discern his position. Dami and Evan were locked in a struggle on the hill. Yet again, Dami proved that in a match of strength she is unmatched. Evan met the wrong end of Inferno's End and was the first of the Black Emerald Banner to fall. Caught in the crossfire the drakes were killed. In the midst of the chaos, Bruhoyn used his mind altering magic to control Dami and Tazmeth and compelled to battle each other. Tazmeth was able to narrowly break free of the magic and escape Dami's axe. Grond turned his sights to Cambio and gave him a good thwacking with a tree trunk. Realizing that they could not continue to allow Grond to terrorize the casters of the Muskrats, Cambio and Itzal stood up for themselves and unleashed their fury on Grond. Under the might of Cambio's eldritch blast, Grond was defeated and there was no one left to stir his cauldron. Did the Muskrats feel sadness because of this? Absolutely not.
With only Rhek and Bruhoyn left, the Muskrats turned their focus to the only one they could see. Dami and Tazmeth charged the mage, but Tazmeth would never make it. The magic and arrows of Rhek dropped the young monk. Thankfully for Tazmeth, Counter Saval performed his clerical duties and saved him. With the Muskrats surrounding Bruhoyn, he was quickly dispatched. Itzal grabbed the crown and prepared to fend of Rhek. Surprisingly, Rhek made two aerial dives to attempt and rip the crown from Itzal's hands so that no one would win the trial. Itzal was able to hang on and out muscle the kenku, a rare feat for Itzal. As the time ended for the challenge, an invisible figure ignited in the sky and fell to the ground. The Muskrats had somehow survived the Trial of the Sovereign Summit.
