Session Report 84

General Summary

The gruesome battle between the Muskrats and the devils continued. Itzal continued to keep one of the horned devils trapped within his domed wall of force. However, numerous bearded devils attempted to get within range of the horned devil's teleport to escape. Cambio from the rooftops sniped any who dared to get close but eventually one of the pesky bearded devils got into range and the horned devil escaped. Meanwhile, Dami's duel with the ice devil came to an end when she landed a satisfying slash that revealed the blue, viscous innards of the ice devil. They spilled on to the rainwater covered street and began to flow towards the sewers where they belonged. In the midst of chaos, Sloan disappeared and the Muskrats were unaware of where he may have gone. Tazmeth still high on his Potion of Speed, darted around the battlefield stunning bone devil and horned devil alike. His hands were as fast as the wind and no devil could keep up with the barrage of strikes he was landing. Soon the devils numbers had dwindled so greatly that the Muskrats were simply massacring the devils and returning them to the Nine Hells, or for some they were sent specifically to Mephistopheles when Dami killed them.
After finishing the devils off the Muskrats finally recovered Eustass who was hiding in a hidden compartment in his carriage. Eustass took the news of his brother's death well and remained committed to fighting the devils. Eustass informed the Muskrats of numerous pieces of important information. First, Eustass explained that Violet had infiltrated the devil's makeshift headquarters in the Temple of Waukeen. Violet had not gotten a message out of the Temple in a week and Eustass feared she had been discovered as a spy. Prior to her suspected discovery, Violet revealed that numerous priests, clerics, and paladins were held in the catacombs of the Temple. The hope of the Resistance were to use a secret tunnel from the home of Holycoin Buzam Rimmel to enter the Temple and bypass many of the devils' defenses. The Resistance planned to do this when the Blades of Purity assaulted the city to try and carry out whatever objective they had. This plan coincided with an expected eclipse that would cover the city at dawn. Supposedly, the Blades of Purity gained power during an eclipse and it held religious significance for them. Violet had also learned that a devil known as a corruption devil planned to conduct a ritual using the power of the eclipse to capture the souls of those in Wulkan and usher in a new wave of devils born from the said souls. The Muskrats knew they had to act quickly before dawn came and the city became a battlefield.
Under the cover of darkness and the rain, the Muskrats made their way through the city and reached the home of Holycoin Buzam. What was once a beautiful home was now only ruins. The home had been looted and little remained inside. The Muskrats began to explore the home and found that some creature had worn the stone stairs into a smooth slide. Upon inspection, Itzal realized that the stairwell was smoothed by the process of scrubbing the poor citizens of Wulkan up and down the stairs. After realizing that horror, the Muskrats discovered the hidden door and made their way through the tunnel. In a short time, the Muskrats entered into the catacombs beneath the Temple. Itzal using Serenity realized that a massive army of devils had gather in the upper chambers of the Temple. The Muskrats knew that they stood no chance against a force of that size and delved further into the catacombs.
After passing through a locked door, the Muskrats came face to face with a group of bearded devils and a chort. The Muskrats had gained substantial experience fighting against devils, especially chorts, and they made quick work of the devils. After the battle concluded the Muskrats each realized they had an ethereal chain protruding from their chest and disappearing towards the suspected ritual was taking place. Despite the ease of that battle, they feared what they may find further into the catacombs.
