Session Report 78
General Summary
The Muskrats had finally succeeded in defeating the Lord of the Hunt and had ended the Wild Hunt. They were exhausted and wounded, but a sense of accomplishment washed over all of the Muskrats. They started to tend to their wounds, set about looting, and continued their search for the two princes. The Muskrats discovered interesting items such as a radiant handgun, a magical key, tea, and a floating orb that projected a map. The ever curious Itzal approached what appeared to be a tomb with a large white tree growing up around it. After inspecting the tomb, Itzal concluded that it was a device used to preserve an individual in a state of suspended animation. Unsure of who may be inside the Muskrats cracked the tomb open and a groggy Crown Prince Ander came tumbling out.
The Muskrats started to question Prince Ander about what had happened to him, but he did not remember much. The Muskrats informed him of what had likely befallen his brother and the illness his mother was suffering from. He did not seem surprised to hear about any of it. He urged the Muskrats to return him to Dalbyen so that he could quell the rebellion that was growing in Frostfire. The Muskrats were worried about teleporting into Dalbyen directly so they opted to teleport about a day away from the city to avoid any trouble. With a quick spell, Itzal returned the Muskrats to the prime material plane. They set out for Dalbyen. Soon into their journey they met a group of farmers returning from Dalbyen, Notably, the farmers' wagons were full of unsold crops. From the farmers the Muskrats learned that Queen Nelethe had died, the capital was closed down, and a civil war was brewing as various lords across the kingdom began to muster their troops. After learning of this Prince Ander urged the Muskrats onward, but they insisted on a rest. Prince Ander relented, trusting that the Muskrats at full power could make up for any time loss.
After a restful evening camping in the woods, the Muskrats continued to Dalbyen and found a large mob formed. The crowd was shooting "Stop the Steal!" A well crafted slogan to combat anyone's attempt at stealing the royal throne. Many shenanigans quickly followed. Dami charged through the crowd knocking many individuals over and threatening others to leave. Sloan gave an impassioned speech, but the uneducated masses could not be swayed by it. Finally, the Muskrats gained entry to Dalbyen when the Royal Guard unleashed poison gas to disperse the crowd. Once past the gate, Prince Ander revealed his identity and the Muskrats made haste for the Citadel. Suspicions among the Muskrats about Prince Ander were beginning to grow. Once they reached the lifts to reach the Citadel, Prince Ander was met by Lord Lyonel, who informed him that Ambassador Nezar Selethen had planned a coup and killed Queen Nelethe and Prince Oromon. The Muskrats believed they were being deceived. With a handy use of Sloan's anti-magic field, Prince Ander's face slid off revealing a mass of scar tissue underneath. Rather than Prince Ander, it was Prince Oromon. He had stolen his brother's identity under the orders of the Achivelli. The Achivelli wished to dispose of Queen Nelethe, Prince Ander, and Ambassador Nezar because they wished to oppose the Achivelli. Prince Oromon betrayed his family to claim the throne and live what he believed was his destiny. The Muskrats continually threatened Prince Oromon with death if he did not betray the Achivelli but Prince Oromon refused to do anything but follow the Achivelli's orders, and he was adamant even in the face of death.
Itzal seeing no choice, teleported himself, Dami, and Prince Oromon to a goblin cave in the Morrand Alliance. Itzal started to prepare to hide Prince Oromon. Unfortunately, Dami picked up Prince Oromon and threw him against a wall with far too much force and broke his neck. She tried to twist it back into place, but ripped it clean off. Simple revivify would not be enough to fix her mistake. Itzal saw his plan ruined and grew worried about the harsh talking to Sloan would give him once he returned. The cleric of Selune was a staunch opponent of extrajudicial executions. With their plan falling apart, the Muskrats decided to have Cambio pose as Prince Ander to quell the nobles and transition Frostfire to a democracy.
With the preparations in place to fool Nezar, the Muskrats headed to meet him. There, they walked Nezar through what had transpired and Prince Ander explained the plans to transition Frostfire to a democracy. Cambio grew a conscious and began to question whether this was the best course of action. He asked Malar for help and for once in his miserable life he provided useful advice. He advised Cambio to reveal what was really happening because he believed Nezar had the interests of the people at heart. Once their deception was revealed, Nezar explained that Frostfire would have a disfigured double play Prince Ander and he and others would transition Frostfire to a democracy. He promised the Muskrats that Frostfire would contribute troops to the coalition and that they would attend the summit to discuss the coalition on the fall equinox. The Muskrats were one step closer to creating a force to oppose Tritemeus. But for now, they had earned some well deserved rest and their pockets were filled with coin ready to be spent.
