Session Report 72

General Summary

The Muskrats' journey resumed when they met Ambassador Nezar Selethen at Spratland Yard to head west to Frostfire aboard the Embershard, a large war galleon. The nine day journey the Muskrats had aboard the Embershard proved to be interesting. First, their conversations with Ambassador Selethen revealed more pertinent information to the quest they had embarked on. The city they were heading to was named Toletum. It was a frontier city on the eastern half of Frostfire, and suffered from harsh winters. The disappearances started a year before the Muskrats made their way to Toletum. The princes had disappeared four months before their arrival and the harsh winter had set in preventing any search parties from conducting a search. Ambassador Selethen also told the Muskrats that the Lord of Toletum, Lord Danerius Hersand, was a nervous and shifty individual that they should watch closely.
Deep in the ship, Itzal discovered a small library and study where a female aasimar was studying. Her name was Rorda and the conversation that ensued between the two proved to be incredibly fruitful. Rorda was a scholar of early governments in the 1st Era, and was especially interested in lineages and their impact on the development of governments. This piqued Itzal's interest due to his investigation of the 1st Kingdom and the two went deep down a rabbithole. After placing protective measures around the two and speaking telepathically Rorda began to share what she knew. She believed that the 1st Kingdom's lineage reached the modern family of Vomagi. They were the only family to lose their noble title when the Morrand Alliance was formed and Rorda believed it due to the Achivelli targeting the family. They have since disappeared. At the time of the formation of the Morrand Alliance, the Vomagi family was quite small. The father of the family was in his forties and he had a single son in his teens. There were no other members of the family. Anyone who investigates the family was visited by the Achivelli and faced horrible punishments or even death. Rorda believed that the Achivelli had some kind of spell in place that could detect when someone spoke of the family or the 1st Kingdom. She also shared that she believed that the Achivelli maintained the status quo of the powerful gods which contributed to their continued existence. Finally, she told Itzal if he wanted more information to seek out Qonog, a tortle scholar in the Kingdom of Tortoi. Their conversation was cut short as Itzal had to assist with a battle against sea dragon that he believed were created to Tritemeus.
The party finally arrived in Toletum after nine long days. Before they disembarked Ambassador Selethen went ashore to meet with Lord Hersand. Itzal eavesdropped on the two. Ambassador Nezar clearly threatened Lord Hersand and stated that if he had anything to do with the disappearances in the area he would quickly find his head on a spike. Ambassador Nezar reboarded the ship and wished the Muskrats the best of luck on their mission. The Muskrats then joined Lord Hersand in his manor to learn more about what had occurred around Toletum. Lord Hersand relayed much of the same information that Ambassador Nezar had provided to the Muskrats. An addition was that some search parties had turned up mass graves of individuals who had gone missing. During the conversation the Muskrats paid special attention to how nervous Lord Hersand was. He avoided eye contact with all of the Muskrats at any cost. 
Lord Hersand had to leave for a moment to attend to some other business. In that time Cambio drank his tea and began to seize up. It turned out that his tea had been poisoned. Itzal quickly saved his dear friend, but Cambio continued to play dead in an attempt to learn why he had been poisoned. When Lord Hersand returned Itzal began his inquisition. He questioned servants, the guards, and even the Lord himself. Lord Hersand blamed a loner out on the edge of town named Zayd, and said he often tried to sneak into the manor. With the "dead" Cambio in tow the Muskrats set off to speak with Zayd.
