Session Report 69

General Summary

The battle between the Muskrats and High Wayfarer Mayathangi was finally beginning. Tazmeth darted across the water to join Mayathangi. Cambio, Itzal, and Sloan were left to defend against the incoming giant snakes and salt devils. The Muskrats were surprised to discover that Tazmeth had deceived everyone when he claimed to have sided with Mayathangi. After darting across the water, he charged straight into the enemies and pulled off a surprising sneak attack that attracted great anger from Mayathangi. She was a little too busy to be concerned with the betrayal by Tazmeth as she was battling Itzal in an attempt to shut down the enemy spellcaster. Itzal, however, was proving to be a difficult enemy for her to overcome, His strong natural defenses along with magical defense was proving to be effective against Mayathangi for the moment. But he knew that she would wear down him down if given enough time. As he pondered that question a massive black tentacle shot forth from the water and it wrapped around Itzal, attempting to drag him under water. His hyperfocus on Mayathangi gave him incredible physical strength and he shrugged the tentacle off and continued his battle with Mayathangi.   The battle took a dire turn for the Muskrats when Cambio fell victim to the poison of the giant snakes and began weeping uncontrollably. Thankfully, Sloan was nearby and cleansed Cambio of the poison afflicting him and returned him to his senses. As the battle raged on the Muskrats were slowly wearing Mayathangi down. They believed they were drawing closer to victory, but the powerful devil still had tricks up sleeve. The Muskrats learned that she could rob them of their wealth and consume it to heal herself. Itzal learned an even tougher lesson. Twice during the battle he felt ethereal hands groping him, trying to snatch his possessions from him. On two occasions she succeeded by stealing his shield and his Amulet of the Planes. The tortle wizard was especially upset about the loss of the shield, one he has had for most of the duration of his journey with the Muskrats. With her power growing the prospects for the Muskrats were growing worse by the second. After the loss of Itzal's items, Tazmeth was pulled underwater and not seen for the remainder of the battle. With three Muskrats missing, the other Muskrats feared that death was imminent.    Fearing the worst Itzal transformed Cambio into a dragon to fight Mayathangi. This strategic move proved to be moderately helpful to the Muskrats. But the onslaught of Mayathangi's power still could not be stopped. She continued to teleport around the battlefield hunting Itzal down. Sloan was surrounded by snakes and Cambio was enjoying soaring through the air. Itzal eventually lost concentration and Cambio transformed back to his usual tabaxi form. Itzal decided that he had to take a stand against Mayathangi and transformed himself. The power gained by this maneuver did not last long as Mayathangi charmed Itzal. At the same moment Sloan succumbed to the poison of the snakes and lay atop the water paralyzed. With only one foe left Mayathangi charged Cambio and laid down a flurry of strikes with her sword that forced Cambio to retreat within his block of ice. With the Muskrats defeated Mayathangi began the ritual to sacrifice the souls of everyone present at Wave's End. Cambio freed himself from the ice to try and stop her but was too late. Mayathangi claimed the souls, completing her ascension to archdevilship, and then left with the spoils of her victory.    Pata'traeya, the Folk of Leng, appeared to aid the Muskrats. He had led his crew and the Muskrat's crew to safety, fearing that the ritual would succeed. The Muskrats learned that only those who made it to the underground portion of Wave's End survived. Pata'traeya had brought his airship to lead the Muskrats back to Halvoy. In exchange he wanted an audience with King Gustav. The Muskrats agreed to the deal. Upon arriving in Halvoy the Muskrats were promptly greeted by the guards of Halvoy and informed that King Gustav wanted an audience with the group immediately.
