Session Report 66

General Summary

With danger rapidly approaching the Muskrats were separated. Five of the Muskrats were trapped in Wave's Break Castle, but Shade had disappeared somewhere else. Shade had fallen asleep after the battle with the kelp creatures and had not left the ship yet. When he finally woke up he discovered that the other Muskrats had abandoned him. After speaking with Kezit he learned that the others had proceeded to the castle. Those that remained on the ship were under watch. With the help of Kezit, Shade snuck through a hole in the side of the ship and swam to shore. He was able to avoid the guards and started his journey to the castle to find his friends. After a couple hours of walking Shade reached the castle. After carefully studying the guards of the castle, he came to the conclusion that they would bar his entry and were holding his friends captives. He chose to infiltrate by the only means he knew: killing everyone he saw. 
While Shade began his onslaught of the guards, the others' journey within the castle was only beginning. Cambio and Itzal had become lost in search of their room and had no fallen into a gentle dispute over which way to go. Thankfully for both of them Dami had rushed from the basement to try and find someone. She ran into these two first. After quickly sneaking off Dami explained to them what she had seen take place under the castle. Their conversation was cut short when a guard began to approach and they snuck into a room to hide. The room as they came to discover was Ford's bedroom and it held many mysteries. First, the trio discovered an item that could create various portals to the Nine Hells and the Abyss by using humanoid souls as fuel. They recovered Ford's journal that showed his remorse over what was transpiring on the island, but also his own fear to try and stop it. Human sacrifices to Mammon was the main business of the Bastard's Court and was what was driving their success. They also discovered from his journal that Mayathangi had created keys from each Seaking that had to be used to access the secret chamber below the castle. The three left the room and headed into the library where they met an ill-tempered wizard that wanted little to do with them. Itzal tried to extract knowledge from him but the mage was a closed mouth man. 
Tazmeth awoke from his deep slumber as the sound of thunder rung throughout the castle. He stumbled out of room and headed in search of his friends with an ominous feeling in his gut. Or had the food at dinner gotten the best of him? Only time would tell. He began to explore the top floor of the castle and he came to a room where he heard someone shuffling about and rummaging through items. He was tempted to enter but feared to take any risky action while alone. He exited the interior of the castle and headed out onto the battlements of the castle. He walked around the battlements as the cold rain battered him. Then he came to a spot where parts of the battlements were cracked, smoldering embers streaked the ground, and part of the battlement was shattered and had fallen to the ground below. Through the wind a smell from below reached Tazmeth. The smell of burning flesh. He looked over the edge and far below he saw a badly burned body. Choosing to continue his investigation Tazmeth floated down to ground and he began to inspect the body. The body was so badly burned that he had to study the teeth of the body to determine if it was anyone he knew. He was horrified to learn that the body he was looking at was Tev's. He rushed off to find his friends to inform them. 
The trio of Cambio, Dami, and Itzal headed down to the main level and heard horns blowing alerting all the guards of an attack on the castle. When the three asked a guard what was happening they believed the Blades of Purity were attacking. Choosing to escalate the situation the three attacked and so began a massacre on the castle. Shade outside was killing guard after guard until he discovered that one of the guards was the Infernal Knight that the Muskrats had encountered in Ashenfall. Shade was quickly pushed back with the deadly swings of the fiend's greatsword. Each swing was capable of splitting Shade in half and each strike caused his flesh to began to rot. He ran and discovered Tev's body. When the fiend gave chase he seemed to absorb the soul from Tev's corpse and then departed leaving Shade clutching his chest and on the brink of death. He desperately searched for his friends. 
Those inside the castle faired far better. Itzal and Cambio unleashed powerful spells that quickly felled the enemies. The fight seemed to be going well under the Muskrats were suddenly attacked by barbed devils. They rushed from the kitchen of the castle and charged for Cambio. It was at this moment that Tazmeth rushed in to join the fray. Without much trouble the four were able to win the fight and fend off the enemies. The castle began to shake as something large began to walk above where the Muskrats were. What was coming for them?
