Session Report 61
General Summary
The Muskrats had made a deal with Cornelius Vanderwallen to bring restore the city of Kannaksen. Choosing to stick around in the New Newt, Chev began to question Cornelius, but while doing so referred to the powerful wizard as Cornwallen. After numerous warnings that he was being disrespectful Cornelius dropped a large bubble of water on Chev. Chev became infuriated and decided to try and use his last Wish to kill Cornelius. Cornelius had not survived this long by being incompetent and unleashed a spell of energy that nullified the Wish spell and left Chev in despair. He began to beg Cornelius to kill him, but Cornelius would not act on his words and instead told him to up hold up his end of the bargain. Feeling defeated Chev left the shop and rejoined rest of the Muskrats.
Next, the Muskrats headed to the Devil's Den in Ginnel's Beach to confer with Daimler Bauman before leaving the city. On the way the Muskrats discovered that House Vassa had posted substantial bounties on Chev, Cambio, Itzal, and Shade's head. The bounty posters were accompanied with the seal of House Rhoma. Had the Night Ruler himself sided with House Vassa? In their meeting with the dodgy mage, they agreed to work together as partners. Daimler agreed to use his network of contacts to collect information for the Muskrats and continue the arms dealing operation. Satisfied with their agreement the Muskrats began to make arrangements to head to Halvoy to meet with the Icefall family. In the meantime Itzal scried Sauvek and saw him in a throne room made of exquisite white marble and gold. He could overhear the former Muskrat discussing with some unseen individuals that the deal with Tritemeus was off after he attacked the rebels that Tritemeus was backing. After collecting what information he could, Itzal next scried Diendrum the Marvelous. He found him in a dungeon chained to the wall and being brutally beaten by Zorron and Kilakas Zypher of House Vassa. The pair were interrogating the merchant about his dealings with the Muskrats, where they had gone, and who was interested in buying their staff. Diendrum never shared any information about the Muskrats.
Realizing that the Muskrats had to assist Diendrum the Muskrats began to hastily make preparation to invade the dungeon and free him. Upon teleporting the Muskrats met resistance due to an anti-teleportation barrier. Overcoming the protective power of the barrier the Muskrats broke through and appeared in the cell where Diendrum was held. They arrived to a gruesome sight. The merchant had been killed a little over a minute before the Muskrats had arrived. In a desperate attempt to recover his body to bring him back to life the Muskrats initiated their no thought escape plan: run. With guards closely following behind the Muskrats ran through the various corridors of the dungeon and crossed a sinking pit of bones to reach a door that had been crafted by fiends. Seeing no other option the Muskrats pushed through and arrived in a desert like location that had a raging sandstorm. Despite the desire of Chev to remain the Muskrats plane shifted to Halovy, and specifically, the estate of the Icefall family.
The guards at the front gate of the Icefall family estate verified that the Muskrats may have information regarding the missing members of the Icefall family and promptly sought the permission of the family head to allow the Muskrats into the estate. After receiving approval the Muskrats were required to remove all magical items, armor, and weapons they had on them. Dami tried to sneak a necklace past the guards but the detection magic that the Icefalls utilized was far too effective. After some grumblings she left the item behind and the group proceeded to meet the family head. The estate itself was pristine and an example of grand wealth. The more religious members of the Muskrats noticed that there were many references to Bhaal, the god of murder. The inside of the estate was dark and much of it was built from dark carved woods. The group was led up a staircase and into a large office space where a thin, middle aged man sat. He had a closely cropped haircut and steel like grey eyes that seemed to peer through each of the Muskrats. He was Bron Icefall, the head of the Icefall family.
Bron was glad to hear that his daughter and grandson had survived but the Muskrats were confused to hear that they had not arrived at the Icefall estate yet. The Muskrats had forgotten that everyone does not possess teleportation magic to traverse the length of a continent in two days. They had finally become elitists. The discussion moved to the Icefall family's interactions with Tritemeus. They learned that the cursed arm that Tritemeus had was slowly taking him over and would eventually unleash a destructive power that far dwarfed his power. In the interest of forming a coalition to oppose Tritemeus, Itzal asked if Bron could set up an audience with the Kings of Hammerhide to discuss the matter. Bron said he would reach out but explained that the Kings were unlikely to want to assist because of a fear of Tritemeus. Next the Muskrats asked if the Icefalls were capable of resurrection and if so whether they could provide their services to the party. Bron obliged and resurrected Diendrum, much to the surprise of the merchant. Itzal began to interrogate the merchant about what had happened to him. The merchant had been captured by House Vassa during his search for the staff for Itzal. It turned out that the staff was in the possession of House Vassa and that House Vassa was worshipping some kind of fiends.
The feud with House Vassa continued to grow.
