Session Report 6

Noting the possibility of goblin returning from their raiding, Sam Urai and Red Tail retreated to the mouth of the cavern to head off any ambushes. A wise move, considering during the night a goblin raiding party returned. Or would have. Needless to say, goblin corpses were strewn across the mouth of the cave that night.   The rest of the Muskrats advanced further into the cavern. They encountered two patrols composed of several goblins, some worgs and a bugbear but were easily able to defeat them. After clearing a worg pen, they hunkered down to rest for a few minutes before proceeding further.   After an undisturbed rest, they continued into the cave. The narrow passageway opened up into an enormous cavern. In the middle rested the skeleton of an ancient dragon surrounded by exotic plants. The skeleton was centuries old but perfectly preserved. The party immediately realized the skeleton was emanating a powerful magical aura. Itzal recognized the plants as Dragon's Fang - which only grow in the presence of latent magic and are dangerous to the touch. Kelgac reached out and touched the skull of the dragon and a stillness came over the cave. When Kelgac spoke next, he spoke in a honeyed woman's voice which admonished the party against disturbing the rest of Sollin, The Lady of the Skies. Further, Sollin told Kelgac that he had found what he was searching for. Kelgac awoke from the trance, completely unable to recollect what had just happened. Despite these warnings, Sauvek took a perfectly preserved leg bone full of marrow and Itzal used his magic to transport a minute finger bone into his satchel. At the other side of the cave, the Muskrats found a chest, in which they found a shield emblazoned with an eye and a finely wrought lute. Itzal took the shield and the party stored the lute for Red Tail as he is the only musically capable member of the party.   The minute the party stepped beyond Sollin's Rest, several arrows whizzed out of the darkness. As the party had made short work of the prior patrols, they were undeterred. Suddenly, a javelin sped from the shadows toward Sauvek. The party heard a guttural bark and tendrils of neon electricity radiated across the javelin. It exploded as it embedded itself into Sauvek chest.   Out of the darkness emerged several goblins and three bugbears, one an especially enormous specimen wielding a vicious morningstar. Two goblins fell immediately to Cambio and Zasha's magic - one pierced through the eye by a shard of ice and another immolated. Itzal and Sauvek steadied themselves as the bugbears bore down on them. The Chief and another bugbear surrounded Sauvek while another bugbear squared off against Itzal. Sauvek channeled his inner rage and buried his handaxe into the skull of the lesser bugbear, killing him instantly. Sauvek's rage left him exposed and the Chief Bugbear brought his morningstar down upon his head. Sauvek dropped to the ground on the verge of death. The Bugbear Chief turned towards Itzal and howled.   As if in response to the howl, two more goblins and two worgs burst forth from the darkness. A blast of eldritch energy from Cambio disintegrated one of the goblin's heads, stopping him dead in his tracks. Zasha conjured a spectral sickle and steeled himself against the worg's advance. Kelgac stepped back and raised his arms and thorny vines erupted from the earth, wrapping themselves around the worgs and binding them to the earth.   The Bugbear Chief caught Itzal with his morningstar, dropping him. Zasha ran forward and used the last of his magical energy to breathe life back into Itzal. Itzal regained his footing and continued his stand against the bugbears. The two bugbears swung on Itzal again and again, yet none of them could fell him.   The worgs freed themselves from the vines and advanced on Zasha. Her conjured sickle carved deep into the side of the first warg but it was not enough. The worgs combined assault was too ferocious and Zasha fell. Cambio sprinted towards Zasha's body, invoking his fey patron and attempting to cow the worgs into submission. The worgs shook off Cambio's influence and turned their attention towards Cambio and Kelgac. As the worgs bore down on the spellcasters, Itzal stood alone against the bugbears. Things seemed grim for the Muskrats.   Indomitable, Sauvek rose from the cavern floor through sheer force of will. Inspired by Sauvek's resilience, Kelgac and Cambio held their ground and fired bolt after bolt of magical energy into the advancing worgs, felling them both, the last sliding to a halt less than a pace from Cambio. Itzal turned his back to the chief and clinched his claw and the bugbear henchman's wounds glowed with a bright light and the bugbear collapsed. With Itzal's back turned, the Chief seemed to finally have the chance to fell the troublesome tortle and he swung his morningstar down on Itzal's exposed head. A magic field sprang forward at the last moment, deflecting the morningstar.   Kelgac and Cambio sprinted to the body of their downed friend, hoping to save her. They were moments late as Zasha expired with the two of them mere feet in front of them. With her last breath, Zasha extorted them to kill that fucking chief. Cambio stepped forward calmly, put his hands together and sent one final blast of eldritch energy careening towards the Bugbear Chief. The blast arc'd just over Itzal shoulder before blowing a hole in the Bugbear Chief's forehead. The Chief finally fell.   The party regrouped around Zasha to mourn their fallen friend. Suddenly, an enormous orc walked into the light. He introduced himself as Nub and indicated that like Cambio, he was a hunter and a followed of Malar. He praised the party for their successful hunt and invited Cambio to join him at the Lake of the Serpent on the first night of autumn for a true hunt. Cambio was less than enthused. Nub noticed Zasha's body and informed the party that there was hope yet. There is a priest of Malar imprisoned in Fort Serlantus dungeon who could resurrect their fallen friend. If they could reach him. Nub then dropped down to all fours and sprinted away like a feral beast.   The Muskrats were alone once again in the cavern. Itzal took a trophy from around the neck of the Bugbear Chieftain who he had dueled for so long. Itzal was able to identify the javelin in Sauvek's chest as a Javelin of Lightning. Sauvek winced as he pulled the javelin free from himself. Sauvek decided to take both the javelin and the Chief's morningstar for himself.
