Session Report 58

General Summary

After the Muskrats fled the worm the party was separated into two groups. One group consisted of Shade and Itzal; the other consisted of Cambio, Chev "One Ear," and Tazmeth. The group of three were moving along a narrow strip of rock along the sea of lava. Shade and Itzal were working their way through the tunnels of the Incubator and reached a chamber where fire elementals and devils were about to engage each other.    Promptly a battle broke out between the two groups with the Muskrats intervening. Barbed devils charged down the coast to fight Chev and Cambio. Tazmeth dodged the barbed devils and dashed into the open chamber to come face to face with the chort. A pig faced, leathery skinned devil with a blunt, flat nose and tusks that curl down with horns that curl up vertically. The well muscled devil had a thick coat of black fur on his legs illuminated by the flaming ranseur he wields.    As Cambio and Chev fought the barbed devils, Shade and Itzal were rushed by the elementals and promptly were surrounded. Itzal filled with confidence proudly proclaimed, "these elementals are weak. There is nothing to worry about." Soon enough he would be proven wrong. As the battles continued, the servant of Arbeyach, Ia'Affrat appeared and dissipated into smoke, only to reappear next to Itzal. Itzal attempted to respond but his lungs were filled with the burning smoke of Ia'Affrat's body and became stunned. The brutalization of Itzal had begun.    With his body stunned with the poisonous fumes of Ia'Affrat's body, Itzal was helpless to fight him. Ia'Affrat took advantage of this opportunity. The burning wasps and hornets that comprise his body began to fly rapidly forming a whirlwind. Itzal was lifted into the air, flames engulfed his body, wasps and hornets stung his body filling him with poison, and finally, he was flung away from the inferno. Ia'Affrat did not let up on the mage. He followed him and continued to subject him to the horrors of his body. Finally, Itzal's forward thinking saved him when his contingency activated and a bubble of impervious magical energy formed around Itzal.    Unfortunately for Itzal, the chort while engaged with Tazmeth seemed to be overcomed with a sixth sense and promptly turned and unleashed a dispel magic to break the protective spell. The slight reprieve however, was all Itzal needed to escape and regroup. Shade began to unleash covering fire for Itzal and started eliminating the elementals that were trying to chase him down.    Chev and Cambio eliminated the barbed devils and began moving up the coast of the lava sea to see the carnage that Itzal and Shade were facing. The poor, young lad Tazmeth caught the worst of the battle. After Ia'Affrat left Itzal, he brought his attention to Tazmeth and joined the chort in the battle against him. The young monk did not see the onslaught coming. He was struck time after time and fell unconscious. But his magical boots prevented him from falling. There he stood as still as a statue among the raging battle.    With the Muskrats severely wounded, Ia'Affrat saw an opportunity to strike. He dissipated into smoke once again and reformed next to Cambio. There he enveloped Cambio in the same horror Itzal had faced, but Cambio faced a far worse fate. He was flung into lava. With quick thinking Cambio encased himself in ice to protect himself from harm. Chev and Itzal succeeded in driving Ia'Affrat away, and Itzal provided another protect magical hamster ball to Cambio to save him. Shade and Chev cleaned up the remainder of the devils and elementals. The Muskrats then began to survey the chamber they found themselves.    Two women were looked in cages in the chamber. The Muskrats freed them and learned that they were mercenaries that Tritemeus had recently captured. The two were a female elf named Tordi Bronzeseeker and a human woman named Cevri Bluedew. They had been working for two men, assisting them with smuggling goods into the Alliance from Halvoy. The two men went under the aliases the Raven Prince and the Golem of Gormond. Tordi revealed that the Raven Prince was a man named Daimler Bauman. Supposedly he had disappeared from the Mages' Guild of Kannaksen. It was unclear which side he supported in the Reclamation War, but Tordi believed he was working with or for the nobles.    When the Muskrats inquired about payment for freeing the two women, Tordi told the Muskrats they could travel to Nurmi and collect payment from her father. She gave the Muskrats a necklace to prove she was alive in order to collect payment. With that squared away the Muskrats continued. They pushed through the next chamber with the bug-like devils and reached a massive metal door. What could be on the other side?
