Session Report 49

General Summary

As the Muskrats began to ponder who could have murdered Zonraven, a young human man approached the party and introduced himself as Tazmeth. Suspicious as ever, the Muskrats listened to Tazmeth’s tale. He had journeyed from a monastery near Halvoy to find the Muskrats because he was told that they could show him how the “real world” really was. Seemingly convinced by this tale, the Muskrats welcomed Tazmeth to the group on a trial basis as an intern. Shortly after this discussion the horn sounded marking the beginning of the hunt. Hundreds of hunters began to race away from the camp in the hopes of pleasing the Lord of the Hunt. The Muskrats being careful as ever chose to hang back for a moment and contemplate their next move. After much heated debate the Muskrats decided to head north in the hopes of disrupting Tritemeus’s war with the drow in the Underdark.   Heading north the Muskrats realized they were following in the tracks of multiple groups, but of particular note was the tracks formed by hooves. Who could the Muskrats be following? The answer would come soon. Before finding that answer the Muskrats would stumble upon a gruesome scene. Charred corpses and dried blood marked a battlefield. Pools of lava had already begun to cool from whatever the “enemy” was. A trail of blood continued north. The curious nature of the Muskrats commanded them to follow. After a short walk they found Neratos with a nasty wound along his arm.   Upon the discovery of the priest, the Muskrats learned that Neratos had been traveling with a novice group when they were attacked. He attempted to help the group but they were outmatched and Neratos was forced to fight for himself and barely escape. While speaking with the Muskrats Neratos heated his blade and cauterized his wound. Dinner shortly followed and then the party settled down to rest. Cambio chose to take an opportunity to take watch. While on watch he saw glowing yellow eyes in the distance that approached. A black beast with a high arched back, feline like features, and coarse long hair approached. An avatar or Malar had appeared.   Malar had come to Cambio to ask him to finally kill Neratos and fulfill his obligation to his patron. Cambio, once again struggling with commitment, tried to procrastinate, but Malar forced his hand and ordered him to kill the priest within twenty-four hours. Without any option Cambio accepted. The morning came with a surprise when, contrary to what Cambio foresaw, Neratos declared he was leaving the group and heading northwest in search of the People of the Black Blood. Fearing that his opportunity to kill the priest in the time limit would pass, Cambio gifted Neratos an Immovable Button and clicked it. Suddenly, thousands of pounds of force pushed Neratos to the group and in cold blood Cambio unleashed eldritch blast after eldritch blast until Neratos was unrecognizable. While slightly shocked, the party had come to accept that Cambio could be unhinged at times, such as when he murdered the young girl in cold blood. The Muskrats continued north.   The trip north would bring the Muskrats to a large lava flow that snaked down the mountains. Choosing to head for the higher ground and find a crossing there, the party began to navigate up rocky terrain. Caught nearly unaware the Muskrats were suddenly ambushed by magmins who were appearing from the lava flow. Undeterred the party continued up the rocky terrain and unleashed a barrage of ranged attacks against the magmins as they approached. As Tazmeth and Shade attempted to cross the lava flow, the lava below began to ebb up and down, growing in intensity until a flame dragon broke through the surface and flew up into the ash filled sky. At that moment a horn could be heard in the distance and the sound of charging hooves followed. Vasled and his party had arrived.   The battle with the flame dragon quickly ensued. Tazmeth and Shade took the lead in the battle, but were promptly hit by a blast of flames that filled them with intense rage against any other living creature. Succumbing to this rage the two Muskrats began to viciously attack each other. Meanwhile, the flame dragon turned his attention towards Vasled and Lupo Nero. As the battle raged on the dragon unleashed extraordinary magical powers such as burying enemies beneath volcanic rubble, obscuring the battlefield with smoke, and burning enemies alive with walls of fire. Whether the Muskrats would be victorious was yet to be seen.
