Session Report 41
General Summary
Following the advice of Pim He, the Muskrats headed off in search of a hidden treasure vault that supposedly was guarded by powerful ooze-like creatures.
Delving far into the cave where the vault was hidden, Itzal approached what appeared to be the skeleton of a dragon. As he continued his inspection of the skeletal remains, a massive green ooze flowed through the cracks in the cave floor, standing at least fifteen feet high.
Quickly a battle ensued. Itzal attempted to retreat from the rapidly approaching ooze that attempted to swallow him. As he fled, Cambio unleashed blasts of eldritch energy towards the ooze. The Muskrats looked on in confusion as the ooze's body began to harden after being struck by the dark eldritch energy. As Itzal continued his retreat, the Muskrats continued their assault in vain. Attack after attack failed to inflict any harm to the ooze. Finally, Itzal turned to face the creature. Choosing bravery over his cowardice, and unleashed a fireball from his flaming staff. The ooze writhed in pain as the fire burned away at it's flesh. Discovering that magic had some effect, the Muskrats unleashed their full arsenal of magic and dispatched the ooze, narrowly avoiding an acidic death of a dear Tortle friend.
The Muskrats approached the vault and found it be locked with a highly sophisticated locking mechanism. Promptly, Shade began the process of unlocking the vault. His work however, was not prompt. He had not yet encountered such a challenging lock, and spent nearly six hours working through the process of picking the lock. Finally, a loud clink was heard as the vault door unlocked. With the help of his fellow Muskrats, Shade pulled the door open and to the surprise of the Muskrats, the vault was filled with treasure. They rushed inside ready to discover the loot that awaited them. As the last Muskrat crossed the threshold, the vault door creaked shut.
Rushing towards the treasure, the Muskrats were unaware that the treasure itself was alive. Soon the Muskrats found themselves attacked by chests and a swirling mass of treasure. The swirling mass engulfed Zonraven and he found himself in a storm of gold coin. Within moments the cascade of treasure had rendered the paladin unconscious. Sauvek came to the aid of his unconscious friend, and imbued with the magical power bestowed upon him by Itzal, he unleashed a fury of slashes with Elduris, that nearly killed the animated treasure. Following with a couple more strikes, Sauvek dealt the finishing blow to the treasure. With the treasure subdued for the taking, the Muskrats took a short rest as they inspected their new found loot.
After finishing their break, the Muskrats headed off further into the dungeon in search of where Nephris lay hidden. Soon the Muskrats would discover minotaurs guarding, yet another vault door. Choosing a stealthy approach, uncharacteristic of the Muskrats, Shade approached. Drawing his bow he let loose an arrow that struck a massive minotaur. With his shot, another battle had begun. Sauvek chose to charge in and grow to a massive size that dwarfed even the minotaurs. As he struck the large minotaur, he discovered that the largest of the minotaurs was not made of flesh, but rather bronze. His discovery would soon be followed by another discovery that came too late for the Muskrats. The minotaur could breathe fire. As the minotaur unleashed a massive blast of fire, the Muskrats found themselves bathing in the flames. Finding themselves severely wounded, but not out of the fight yet, the Muskrats renewed their will and unleashed a series of blows that dropped the minotaur.
Once again Shade found himself tasked with unlocking a highly complicated lock. This time however, he had gained the experience needed to speed the process up. Taking only an hour this time Shade unlocked the door and found himself blinded by some creature. Catching only a glimpse of the creature, Shade saw what appeared to be a massive figure with a blue leathery like hide. His exterior covered in arcane sigils similar to eyes, but also real eyes themselves that dotted his flesh. That was all Shade saw before the bright, blinding light struck his eyes preventing any further observation.
