Session Report 24

General Summary

Kelgac and Sauvek had not seen their fellow Muskrats in many days and life of summer passed away to fall, the two wondered if their friends had met a similar fate. Deciding to follow through on the plans the Muskrats had made many days ago, the two member party continued towards Barenstadt.    The days of travel were easygoing until the two made camp within the pines of the Axe Road. Finding himself on watch, Kelgac passed the evening staring into the night sky, filled with stars and other cosmic wonders. As he sat there watching, an object, no, a creature came into sight. A white mass of flesh, swirling tentacles, and a bright red singular eye caught the attention of Kelgac as the creature remained motionless, floating in the sky. The bright red eye fixated on Kelgac, staring deep within his soul with a curious gaze. After a few moments of tense eye contact, the floating creature turned and floated away beyond the cover of the distant pine trees. After waking Sauvek, the two went to investigate the scene where the creature was, but afraid of venturing further at night the two turned back and returned to their camp.    During the next day of travel, Kelgac and Sauvek came upon a group of bearfolk who had captured giantkin and were transporting them to Barenstadt. In an attempt to avoid a confrontation with the rambunctious band of bearfolk, Kelgac transformed his appearance to mimic that of a bearfolk. The ruse was quickly found out because Kelgac could not understand the language of the bearfolk and was then subsequently kidnapped with Sauvek.    The next days of travel would prove to be tough on Sauvek and Kelgac. Sauvek would learn a great deal from the giantkin they were traveling with. Bearfolk are known to capture giantkin to use them as a means of fulfilling a prophecy known as the Gauntlet and bringing about the Time of Freedom for bearfolk. The Gauntlet is a cave network that begins in Barenstadt and the end location is unknown except to four individuals. The purpose of the Gauntlet is to find a giantkin worthy of resurrecting the Giants. The giantkin who defeats the Gauntlet is prophesized to be the future king of the Giants and will resurrect the race to conquer all of Eratros, as their ancestors intended. The bearfolk guard the Gauntlet as they are oathbound to protect it and serve their former Giant masters. Once the chosen giantkin completes the Gauntlet, the bearfolk are free to leave Brondheim and live however they wish.    After nearly a week of travel, Kelgac and Sauvek arrived in Barenstadt and were promptly taken to the Hall of Hides where the Bear King, Jurgan Silverclaw, bought them and then forced them to go undergo the trials of the Gauntlet. Despite the heavy handed nature of their encounter, the bearfolk provided whatever supplies the two desired in the hopes they would be successful in completing the Gauntlet.    The other giantkin were forced to undertake the Gauntlet before Kelgac and Sauvek. Deep underground they were taken to a large set of ancient stone doors. On each door were symbols of the ancient Giants and a bearhead. Curiously, a dragonhead symbol crossed both doors, the only symbol to do so. As the giantkin entered, orbs of fire formed high in the chamber. One to signify each who entered into the Gauntlet. Within hours each of these orbs were extinguished and any hope that the Time of Freedom was coming vanished.    After two days of rest, Kelgac and Sauvek's turn to head into the Gauntlet arrived. With the sudden appearance of their allies, who refused to venture deep within the Gauntlet, these two brave souls pushed forward. Within a short time, they came upon a crying Kobold named Soks. Soks had been taken into slavery by the Drow. Soks was forced to dig a tunnel from the Underdark to the cave network of the Gauntlet so that the Drow could steal a fragment of the Dragonstone. Soks pleaded for assistance to fight off the Drow and save his family who the Drow had kept as prisoners, but his pleads fell on deaf ears and Kelgac rejected him. With sudden quickness, Soks darted off into the dark tunnels. Whether it was him or his fellows Kobolds, Kelgac and Sauvek would run into a nasty rocks trap that saw Sauvek get pummeled. A cacophony of Kobold laughter followed the cave in and the two Muskrats were forced to find an alternative path.
