Session Report 13
General Summary
The particles in the air grew stale as the party walked along the coast of Lake Kannasken. The hunt was here and the party needed a boat and crew in order to take down the beast Cambio had been charged with felling.
The night before the party had discussed which option would be better, risk their own assets in the form of the Muskrat boat and tabaxi crew or contract a ship and crew. The Muskrats choose the latter and headed off towards Kannasken the next day.
As the Muskrats wandered into the magnificent city of Kannasken, sewer, feces, and all other sorts of rank smells made themselves apparent to the group's nostrils. After some time searching and asking about for possible salty and surly captains, one man's name kept being mentioned by the questioned locals, Not available
The Muskrats found their way to this human male's boat on the far side of the docks away from most other ships. The party spied a human male looking over a ledger next to a ramp where sailors were lugging up boxes and barrels. As you close in, the human male looks away and begins chastising a sailor who was lugging up a square box onto the ramp.
"No, No, No, remember the rule Drapo, NO CRATES ON MY VESSEL. That will be the end of us if we bring that square bastard on board." The male gnome who was lugging the crate sets it down aside the ramp and nods his head towards the group as he heads up the ramp. The human male turns around and greets the party.
After few short minutes of idle chat, the Muskrats are able to figure out that this man is the captain. The Muskrats laid out ROI charts, supply and demand demographics for Kannasken, and lastly, a balance sheet of assets and liabilities that the Muskrats own. With these fanatical statements in hand, the captain was able to make an informed decision on what to charge the group and that was the steep price of 125 GP to contract the ship for the hunt. The Muskrats bit their tongues and agreed to the price.
As the captain is filling out the contract for the Muskrats to sign, the gnome from before patters down the ramp and once again begins to move the crate up. The gnome is able to get the crate on board before the captain rises from his paperwork. The Muskrats sign the contract and walk aboard to their hired ship. The group ignores most of the sailors and sit down for a relaxing day in the suns as the boat cuts through the water.
A few hours later and things are not as peachy as the boat has been smashed to pieces, the captain has fallen overboard, and the crew scattered across the open water. All thanks to one gnome's crate and a massive kaiju monster.
As the waters got rougher the captain told the adventurers to be on guard as this was the area the squid beast resided. Without warning, massive tentacles as thick as a bugbear's gut shot out of the water and wrapped themselves around the boat. Immediately the captain fell overboard as a crate wrapped in untied ropes slammed into his side. The crew abandoned ship after seeing their captain descend into the deep dark blue that is Lake Kannasken. The Muskrats alone were able to stay afloat on the boat.
The Muskrats fought the beast as they retreated up to the nearby rocky shore. Many of the group fell and bled from the harsh attacks of the beast but the group stood strong and lived on. Eventually the beast succumbed to the multiple Eldritch Blasts Cambio was launching at the squid kaiju. With squid meat, oil, and egg all in tow, the party called it a win and headed out.
Due to later accounting measures done by some of the Muskrats, the total coin gain for each party member was a lost as the expensive potions they bought and consumed easily outweighed the money made. Yet Cambio was able to complete his objective of the hunt and was rewarded greatly for the work. Though the entirety of the party lost gold from the endeavor, it was worth while for all Rats of Musk to see Cambio smile once again since losing his buddy Redtail.
