Session Report 109
General Summary
The Muskrat were separated into individual chambers – but each room was identical and lined with bookshelves packed to the brim with thick books. The most unusual thing about the situation, however, wasn’t the instant teleportation, but the hologram of an ultroloth in the center of the room. He had green skin, an elongated head, and patiently watched them with large, bulbous eyes. Most Muskrats were wary as ultroloths were generally known to be evil with an extreme desire for useful knowledge. The ultroloth introduced himself and welcomed each of them. He informed them that they would be blocked from entering the queen’s court, known as the Alabaster Hall, until they all passed several challenges. He explained that this first challenge was a trial of information. They were each given three attempts to provide worthy information. Otherwise, he offered to probe their minds and choose worthy information himself, but these taken thoughts would be lost to them forever. They could also give up and go back home, but the memory of this place would be wiped. He noted that the Alabaster Hall was mainly concerned with preserving as much history as possible, and valued important events that affected their existence, moments of lost history, or new battle techniques.
While Itzal and Cambio carefully examined their surroundings, Dami stepped forward. She excitedly retold her own story of Inferno’s End - how Lady Emni was tricked by Mephistopheles and became the axe’s true source of power, and how Dami released the generational curse to transform the weapon into Reclamation. Dami was happy that someone would keep a record of her family’s history, as she had never been given the opportunity to do so. The ultroloth was satisfied and promised her they would write thorough notes. He announced that she’d succeeded, and books flew off the shelf, their pages ripped away and encased her. With a blink, she was gone. In his own room, Cambio gingerly asked questions about how up to date the ultroloth were on current events. When he heard they were not, he cleared his throat and recounted the Muskrat’s journey through the oubliette and their battles with the Blades of Purity. While he was (mostly) truthful, he embellished certain parts to make himself seem more heroic, which left the ultroloth quite impressed. Cambio had succeeded as well and was quickly enveloped by pages and teleported away. Itzal examined the room further but didn’t find anything interesting. He finally decided to give information that almost no one in the world knew about. He provided the final resting place of a dragon’s still beating egg hidden in a deep cave in Frostfell. He noted that the chamber was cursed against non-dragonborn. The ultroloth was especially pleased and called it some of the most interesting information that had ever been offered in these halls. Itzal had easily passed and was the next to be teleported. Lastly, after some deep reflection, Tazmeth stepped forward and offered knowledge on his own technique known as the way of the meridian. By channeling his ki, he was able to gain various healing functions and secret abilities to cripple enemies. Of course, Tazmeth mentioned that he had learned these techniques thanks to Master Linil. With that, each Muskrat had succeeded upon their first try and were brought back together.
The Muskrats were reunited but had no time to celebrate. They were gathered on a grandiose bridge with white walls rising out of water on either side. Stunning trees with magenta leaves decorated the walls and the clear sky could be seen above. There were six giant pillars on the bridge, a central platform in the middle, and, at the very end, walls which intersected into 3 archways completely covered by vines. All these doors opened and royal chimeras, manastorm golems, and mythoblades (terrifying metal constructions) poured out, headed straight towards the crew. The final challenge to alabaster hall had begun.
The fight began in confusion as the huge pillars in front of the Muskrats joined the battle and unleashed various magical effects on the bridge. Itzal immediately stepped up and hit the pillars, while the chimeras flew high and continuously threw charm and curse spells towards Tazmeth and Dami. The pillars proved more powerful than expected and chipped away at Cambio’s health. The mythoblades let out loud thrums with resonance to purify their surroundings, but most of the crew easily deflected these attacks. The crew sensed the danger of staying put and quickly dispersed. Dami unfurled her wings and flew away, Cambio jumped in the water, and Tazmeth dashed around. Itzal alone was forced to face a firing squad of golems and mythoblades on the bridge. Dami faced one of the chimeras above but was cursed to inaction after only a few hits and died soon after – only her rage allowed her to remain standing. In a moment of genius, Cambio took a big inhale and screamed out a mass suggestion which hit 12 of the attackers and forced them to turn their attention to the pillars instead. The tide of the battle had finally switched, however, Itzal was frustrated as his magical carapace took many hits and the pillars had focused their attention on him only. Luckily, the golems and mythoblades had chipped away at the pillars as well and each slowly fell and dissipated one by one. While Dami and Tazmeth worked on the golems, Cambio blasted massive air bazookas to push them back, and finally landed a massive crit on the last chimera standing. Both of his blasts snapped the chimera’s heads back through sheer force and the crew all watched as the chimera fell into the water. With his death, the golems suddenly all disappeared (much to Tazmeth’s dismay).
The middle door at the end of the bridge opened and the crew walked over to see a large podium atop which laid four potions filled with bright blue liquid. A note tied to each read, “As a reward, each of you can enjoy a Potion of Future Self.”
