Session Report 103
General Summary
The fierce battle against Anathema continued. Tazmeth and Dami were bound by the powerful chains of Anathema. Tazmeth attempted to lash out at Anathema and strike her. His fist smashed into smash and Anathema did not blink after suffering the strike. Rather she lashed out at Tazmeth. Her massive falchion striking the arms and legs of Tazmeth. With each strike his bones shattered and his limbs twisted into unnatural positions. With the final strike, Tazmeth's heart stopped and he fell limp within the chains of Anathema. She released the poor monk from her chains and he plummeted to the ground.
Anathema then flew down to face Itzal and Cambio with Dami in tow. In the midst of her flight, she struck Dami's hands, knocking Inferno's End out of her hands. Inferno's End crashed into the ground with a metallic pand. Dami's only hope of harming Anathema was now out of her grasp. Before Dami could even protest, Anathema struck both of her arms and like Tazmeth Dami's arms shattered. As Anathema landed, Counter Saval charged her to protect his dead lord, Cambio. Valiantly Counter Saval stood before Anathema and took strike after strike as Itzal and Cambio attempted to back him up. Even the bulwark that was Counter Saval could not withstand the onslaught by Anathema and he collapsed to the ground. Realizing that the Muskrats were in a dire spot, Itzal called upon some of his greatest magic and ethereal strikes of force started to rain down on Anathema. Cambio followed up with a barrage of eldritch blasts that left resulted in Anathema finally showing wounds. She let out a horrifying scream and her demeanor appeared to shift. Her stance became open and more focused on recklesly attacking rather than attempting to block any strikes.
Anathema charged and began to lay down a beatdown on the poor tortle wizard. With her first strike she knocked his Staff of Power from his hands and then followed up with a powerful that knocked his precious shield from his hands. Itzal now left completely defenseless could now only accept the fact that Anathema was going to viciously beat him to a pulp. Before continuing her onslaught, Anathema raised her black scales and a flash of brilliant, radiant light washed over the battlefield. Suddenly, Dami, Tazmeth, and Counter Saval found themsleves trapped in a demiplane. Suspended in a void, wrapped in chains, these three Muskrats had no way. Slowly the chains began to tighten, threatening to leave them trapped forever. Cambio narrowly escaped the banishing effect and focused his attacks on Anathema. As his eldritch blasts fell upon her, she suddenly slumped for a moment as if she was about to collapse, but her head immediately snapped back up. Cambio realized at that momeny that only a certain weapon, Inferno's End. Cambio relayed this information to Itzal and Itzal jumped into action. He dispelled the magic that was keeping Dami banished. Dami rushed to where Inferno's End lay on the ground. She picked it up with her mangled arms and took a swipe at Anathema. As her axe cleaved through Anathema, there was a bright flash of light.
The Muskrats found themselves standing a bright blue sky, heavenly clouds floating around them that were pierced by glimmering golden rays of light. Anathema stood before them and next to her was a celestial. Silver hair flowed down her back in a loose braid. Her hair partially cloaked her silver and golden armor that glimmered in the light. She looked upon the Muskrats with gentle silver eyes and her face held a look of great forgiveness with a hint of regret. She looked to Dami and explained that she was Emni, the Lady of Hope. She was Inferno's End, or rather was. Lady Emni was once an archon from Mount Celestia who took a great interest in the lives of mortals and attempted to help them whenever she could. One day she met a powerful adventurer while on the Prime Material Plane. She fell in love with the adventurer and they started a family. Their family grew and their love deepened. Then it all fell apart. The adventurer she had so desperately loved revealed himself to be Mephistopheles. He had manipulated her and slowly placed a curse upon her. When she attempted to lash out at him, the curse grabbed at her negative emotions and transformed her into Inferno's End. The curse extended to their children, who were transformed from aasimars to tieflings and were afflicted with great misfortune and were bound to carry the axe and become filled with the negative emotions. Eventually the axe came to Dami's possession many generations later. Of the many wielders of Inferno's End they had never discovered that the secret of breaking the curse was to set a fallen angel free with the axe. Dami had done just that when she slayed Anathema with the axe.
Lady Emni approached Dami and touched Inferno's End. The dark rust covering the axe burned away revealing a beautiful axe of gold and silver. Golden chains that gave off a faint glow of light wrapped the handle of the axe. Next Lady Emni touched Dami's forehead, Dami's bright red hair began to swirl around her. Her blank grin and mischievious eyes were gone, and replaced by a grimace and tears. Slowly a feeling of calmness began to wash over her, and despite the immense heat radiating from her body, Dami's body seemed more at peace than ever before. The heat continued to grow, and then reached a critical point. Radiant light began to pour out from her eyes and mouth. The llight was so bright it consumed her body completely until she could no longer be seen in it. No sound could be heard from the smell of singed flesh and feather began to permeate the air. Light suddenly bursted outwards and immense heat washed over the other Muskrats. As their eyes adjusted, they saw large angelic-like wings enveloping Dami. As the wings opened, the Muskrats saw that the red-eyed tiefling with grey skin and large black horns was now an aasimar with red energy emitting from her eyes. Her fiery red hair still remained, but her face was now more humanoid than ever. Her dark robes were now a silver tunic with a large white gauntlet in the center. Dami had finally been freed from her curse. Lady Emni had to bid Dami farewell because she had a duty to lead Anathema to the afterlife, but she told Dami that she would be with her within Reclamation, the true name of the axe. With that the Muskrats were returned to the pits of the Wrath-Spike.
Suddenly, the portal flared up and Tritemeus appeared heavily wounded. As he exited from the portal, the sound of the thunderous beating of wings and roars filled the air. The Achivelli had arrived. Tritemeus told the Muskrats that Mizanoros was convinced that Tritemeus had betrayed hum and was working with the Achivelli. Mizanoros attempted to kill Tritemeus and he fled. Tritemeus explained that he was fleeing to puruse his final plan to defeat the Achivelli and he offered to teleport the Muskrats to safety. They opted to go to Ginnel's Beach and parted ways with Tritemeus. Upon reaching Ginnel's Beach, the Muskrats began to plot their final moves in preparation to defeat the Achivelli.
