Erania

A medieval natural world inhabited by all races. The traditional segregation of races one might expect is absent thanks to the dominance of the human development and their embracing the other races skills to push further. This co-existence breeds an interesting mingled society which capitalises on the strengths of each race and has allowed for rapid expansion of development. This late medieval technology is just beginning to meet more advanced technologies like early trains and metallurgy. Technology has been limited by an inability to find a combustible compound that isn't too volatile for use outside of highly robust magic containment used in the trains and related large equipment.   A series of continents with a number of kingdoms Most are monarchies of varying kind. Some are pseudo democratic with an elite choosing a new leader, others are absolute inherited and others are simply dominated by financial aristocrats. This creates an environment of relative war and expansion though the threat of monsters in the world prevents too many resources form being committed to war. In most areas guards and established order exist to prevent disorder and robbery outside of some of the more violent kingdoms still vying for a leader.   all of which feel a heavy presence of the divine beings. These beings are often chosen by a kingdom and worshipped by its people. These beings will provide blessings to their followers.Magic exists but is difficult and practised by few, the small number of powerful magical items are sought after and treasured. Often those who can practice magic seek power or seclusion, becoming court magicians or retreating to the wilds between towns.
