Era

Created by

Era has been a world long established by conflict. The three major continents are Vcis, Yyore, and Primord, although several other continents exist, including Ingott, the artificial dwarven homeland; The Moonlands, the chosen domain of the dark elves; Ray, the land of tribal goblinoids; Inix, the islandic nations of loosely joined colonies established in the middle of an elemental storming sea; and The Land of the Sky, the domain of dragons. The historical cultures of Era have remained somewhat constant for centuries. Vcis has had stable borders and economies between its five nations of Vaera, Sharun, Arkshire, Rugaea, and the Goldlands. Yyore has seen constant engagements between bands of men, monsters, dragonborn, giants, and many other species that are all vying for the continents sparse but excessively rich pockets of natural resources. Primord has been little explored, a massive wall-like forest surrounding the island's perimeter meaning that only a narrow stretch of fertile land is accessible for the tribal societies that call its outlands home. Deeper in the jungle are stunning vistas and startlingly gorgeous sites of natural beauty, studded with dark locales and filled with ruins of long-gone civilizations--and some that may still be thriving. However, few who enter the deeper rings of Primord's jungles have ever returned, establishing its reputation in the eyes of the rest of the world. However, thirty years ago, an invading force of apocalyptic scale set its eyes on Era. Orcus, Demon Lord of Undeath, breached the barriers of the world and tore his way in, and soon, his undead forces stretched to the horizon and beyond, and endless wall of undeath and darkness. They destroyed every living thing in their path, systematically silencing each nation until only Cradle, the center of knowledge, military power and general civilization, stood to withstand it. It took the undead time to breach the city's defenses, but when they did, it wasn't long before all appeared lost. Only the actions of seven heroes--and the terrible sacrifice of three of them--managed to raise the ancient defenses of the city and buy them time to defeat the demon lord. Since then, the world has been struggling to recover. Only 2-3% of all living things managed to survive the onslaught, and the blows to the various cultures, species, and general modes of living that were dealt have had resounding, far-reaching effects. But no matter how slow, the world is recovering, and now all that remains to be seen is what the survivors will establish as a new world order...
