Daphne Dill

Priestess Daphne Dill (a.k.a. Daph)

Daphne Dill is a Wildling living in Silwa woods. Her place of birth, homeland, family, age, heritage and past are all unknown. At a young age she was found wandering the woods alone, where the goddess Brigid took pity on her. She protected her as her ward, as long as she stayed within the forests’ boarders. When she came of age as a woman, a visiting priestess of Brigid found Daphne in the scared woods, and taught her the vows of the goddess and how to live her life as a devout handmaiden of Brigid. The old priestess stayed with Daphne for several years in the woods, teaching her the ways of the goddess. After saying her sacred vows, Brigid gave Daphne her sacred symbol (Three concentric circles) in the form of an amulet and she was able to feel the power of the goddess as her own. Not long after, two great dragons attacked and burnt down the entire forest and all that lived there. The old priestess died trying to protect the sacred woods. Brigid did not intervene, despite Daphne praying for her intervention to save her fellow priestesses’ life. This caused a major crisis of faith for Daphne, which is why during the current campaigns she struggles to make the right choices - she no longer fully trusts Brigid or herself and must regain this trust. After the attack, Brigid punishes Cathy, the child of the dragons who burned down her scared forest. Brigid tasks Daphne with the redemption of Cathys’ soul, which is why they are on the campaign together. This is something she struggles with, as Cathys’ parents are the reason the only home she has ever known is gone, and she doesn’t seem to care. She also questions Brigid’s instructions, not understanding why she has this task or if Brigid even cares that her old mentor died as a result of the dragons. This fuels her crisis of faith, again causing her to make questionable decisions on the campaign, despite her heart being in the right place. Being forced to leave the woods also means she has lost the physical protection of Brigid, and must make her own way in the outside world she knows nothing about for the first time. Because of this she tends to be naive and is often swayed by the opinions of others whom she seems as wiser than her due to their experience in the world. This causes her to question her own decisions and what she knows to be right, to the dismay of her goddess. Furthermore, Brigid is also displeased by Daphne and her usage of her Sacred Flame spell. After the burning of her forest and death of her mentor, Daphne has become almost afraid of her fire magic and only uses it when absolutely necessary. This is because she sees it as too dangerous to use, and it always seems to do more harm than good in her eyes (as seen in session 2). This angers Brigid, as the scared flame is one of her most important symbols - a true priestess must learn not to fear her sacred flames bestowed on her by the goddess.
