Summer Sun Celebration

The Summer Sun Celebration is a yearly-event in Equestria. It is mainly to celebrate Celestias defeat of nightmare moon and to celebrate the sun. After Nightmare moon is defeated by the main 6, Celestia says that the summer sun celebration no longer represents the defeat of Nightmare Moon, but instead the return of her sister Princess Luna.

History

Nightmare Moon made her return on the 1,000th year of the Summer Sun Celebration, almost halting the event altogether until Celestia returned, and subsequently raised the sun. It was almost stopped again when Celestia and Luna were captured by the Plunder Vines, but once again went on without another hitch once they were freed, and when the Mane Six had come back, Twilight becoming involved in it. This Summer Sun Celebration was to now commemorate the return of Luna instead of the fall of Nightmare Moon. After Princess Celestia and Luna retired their roles with raising the sun and the moon they declared that there was no longer any need for the celebration. Twilight Sparkle, the new princess of Equestria/the sun and moon, felt that the celebration represented more to the ponies of Equestria than a celebration and therefore created a new celebration on the same day. It was now called The Festival of the two Sisters, a celebration to thank and honour the two former rulers of equestria.

Execution

The exact process itself, both prior and after Luna's return, had the sun and moon being moved side-by-side: the sun rising as the moon fell as a visual representation to Nightmare Moon's defeat. First the moon would be lowered, and then Celestia would fly up alongside the sun, and use her magic to bring forth the next morning from there. When Twilight Sparkle became princess, she was given the honour to fly in and release a giant purple star shape when the moon and sun lined up.
Before staying up all night to watch the sun rise, the ponies collect flowers and berries to bake yummy foods and create flower crowns. They also dance around and sing songs of the two sisters. During the day the ponies decorate Celestias podium with flowers and berries.
In the Crystal Empire they collect crystal flowers to collect and put under their pillows to dream of their future special somepony, some ponies outside the empire do the same tradition but not all.
